Cryptic advert in Hackney Gazette references Hackney Diamonds, ‘opening September 2023’ The Rolling Stones have slipped out an announcement about their new album using a cryptic local newspaper advert. The surviving members of the band, now in their 70s and 80s, chose London’s Hackney Gazette to reveal details of the new record to their knowing fans. To the uninitiated, the advert may look like an unremarkable notice for a new local store. “Hackney Diamonds, Specialists in Glass Repair, Opening September 2023,” it told readers on page 3 of the paper. But underneath there are more clues to the advert’s true meaning. It says: “Our friendly promises you satisfaction. When you say gimme shelter we’ll fix your shattered windows.” Fans have realised the advert was a teasing promotion for the band’s 31st studio album, out in September. www.theguardian.com/music/2023/aug/23/the-rolling-stones-sneak-cryptic-teaser-ad-for-new-album-in-local-london-newspaper-hackney-diamonds

That would be glasses repair now Isn't that cultural appropriation, anyway? None of them came from the East Side IIRR.

Fantastic marketing campaign, and far easier than 4 gigs in one day!

Fantastic marketing campaign, and far easier than 4 gigs in one day! Excellent touch alright, maximum press for minimum outlay. The best part of it is that even with all the waiting/speculation, this first hint at new album went completely unnoticed for a fee days!

Thanks granny , for posting. But can't believe I missed reading it. And I found out at 4.30pm, missed it by 2 hours! That the Stones were playing on my doorstep. I dashed out to see a few fans hanging about, the crew bus and the last TV camera crew doing a piece to camera, ala Jonathan Pie. Without jokes. On my way back, I saw my lovely neighbour said she watched the livestream from home. We think it was an invited audience?? Here's a link to the launch.

And here is the new single... Love it! It's not Ginme Shelter, but it grooves and rolls, similar to Start Me Up. Particularly the second half - from the piano chord/guitar solo to the end is classic sounding Stones. The way the guitars weave together in the coda, so enjoyable. That's Keith on bass also. The video is excellent, plenty great shots and clips from the years. The last track on album is Rollin' Stone Blues; a wonderful send off as that Muddy Waters song is where the band took the name. Unsure if it's a cover of the Muddy track or an original sharing the name, but a very nice touch to end the album on.

I enjoyed watching the livestream feed of the album launch. Jimmy Fallon, who I didn't know was a good host and nicely cheeky. It's great but also slightly surreal to think of them still going strong; Mick is 80 now. I think they look their age but it's all about how they carry themselves, and the clothes of course. They've kept their younger 'look' and got away with it. Here are a couple of pics I found of them arriving. Those taxis are also known as Hackney cabs.

Fantastic video 😛and great to Mick, Keef and the band back again but that song will wear thin after short while. Hope the album is better than that.

And here is the new single... Really good that. Classic Stones. Timeless pretty much. Nice video as well. Weaving the old and the new quite seamlessly. It'll probably be their last studio album. It's been quite a ride. Glad I caught most of it

The video is so well conceived and executed. Loving the song - the piano/guitar solo is the moment it really takes off. The handclaps, massed vocals, the slightly chaotic mess of guitars!
The 2nd single may be the up-tempo raver with McCartney (even a bass solo contained!). I hope there is a video with the Stones & McCartney for that one.
