There's been a few. What's your favourites? Apart from Spinal Tap.
Here's a real guilty pleasure but I like it. Good tunes and better than the trailer suggests.
Remember the first time you heard Stairway? Cut from the film as too expensive to get the rights...

I don't think I've ever seen one that I really like.
Still Crazy is still about the best. And the Comic Strip episode called "Bad News" was very funny.
But I've never seen a 'serious' one that hit the mark. Although David Essex and "Stardust" back in the 70's was half decent.

How many films based on popular entertainment are usually crap, the real thing is good enough. The best ones never get a mention. Boxing has produced and endless chain of shite movies with the exception of the incredible "Fat City" possibly the best sport film ever.

I can't think of any others so I had a quick online search and found this from the 1970s which sounds fun.
And talking of the 70s, what about Tommy by the Who? I know it's not about the industry but it's got a great soundtrack.
The list I've found also notes Sid & Nancy (1986) too. But I've not seen that.
And has anyone seen School of Rock (2003), again not seen it but I like the work of director Richard Linklater.

And if we widen our definition of music to include country, these are two films I rate are.
Nashville (1975) by Robert Altman
Jeff Bridges in Crazy Heart
