I still don't have these deluxe releases. Santa chinned me last night over a glass of Medoc and asked if they should go on the Christmas list. I said " go for it, Santa", like Bonnie Tyler encouraging Shaky, so perhaps I can summon up the patience to wait. I think I'll manage I agree that Riffs might actually be the best of the three covers albums but, seriously, is that really any recommendation? Notwithstanding that it reached the ludicrous stage of the band covering themselves! Although we know why they did it. This was a covers album too far and they knew it. But they were over that barrel that some thought they were scraping the bottom of. Beautifully put

I agree the actual produced sound on riffs is actually better than Heavy Traffic but both were recorded at same time so not sure why an obvious difference??

I remember reading the inner notes and it mentions two studios, the same as the heavy traffic and another. Maybe I'm wrong.

Riffs actually means Really Insipid Floundering Fcukin Shite. It's got covers of some great songs that should have been left alone.
They've done some good work covering some songs. Lazy Poker Blues being the best, it is an outstanding and brave effort, fancy being known as a Carnaby St pop band and 3 years later covering a song that featured one of the top British guitar players of any era.
This incredible turn around is possibly unique in the popular music business. Rossi, Parfitt, Lancaster, Lynes, Coghlan and Young did an amazing thing. It's something that is often overlooked, but, fcuk me these lads had the minerals!

I think it had only been recorded months earlier, with a totally different arrangement. Also shows the importance of Fleetwood Mac to Quo, a huge influence. Francis wasn't a good player technically, but this and many others prove you don't need that. A great creative composer of melodic lead. It really pees me off when guitarists knock him down. If they had the ability to write and compose like him , they would. Obv, they don't LPB sounded great at JCQ.

Up there with the Thamesmen becoming Spinal Tap and releasing 'Silent But Deadly' (via interim names of Rave Breakers, Hellcats, Flamin' Daemons, Shiners, Mondos, the Doppel Gang, the Peoples, Loose Lips, Waffles, Hot Waffles, Silver Service, The Mud Below, and the Tufnel-St. Hubbins Group).
