Tricky one because, like most people, my favourite track can change depending on whatever day of the week it is.
I think, overall, if I was stuck on a desert island and could only take one Quo song with me, it would have to be Caroline (album version, of course!). I have never got bored with this song or felt that I have overplayed it, and it has a groove that you fall headfirst into as soon as the drums & bass kick in.
I love the intro from Rick, the main riff from Francis, the joint rhythm of the 2 Teles and the solid bass & drums. The production, the simplicity, the nod value and the frantic crescendo at the end...it has the lot. It stands out to me as a classic slice of the genre that you could play to an alien to explain what 'rock music' is all about, in the vein of Tie Your Mother Down by Queen or Rock n Roll by Led Zeppelin.
Dare I say it...I think its actually perfect in every way and is only made better by being played live.

Just for the record (see what I did there? ), it will always be the original Hello! version of Forty-Five Hundred Times. I know longer live versions usually get the nod - and also the studio remake in 1991 - but if you were there in 1973, this track was almost life-changing. And I'm being serious. I was a teenager and overnight I suddenly realised what I wanted to listen to; any and all variations of this type of music. If it was religious, it would have been called an epiphany Actually, it was very close to a religious experience. I was converted
By some curious quirk of fate (and not buying many albums) I never ever heard 4500 Times until I encountered it Live in 1982. It was the musical equivalent of being dropped on your head (but in a good waY). It was definitely life changing. I felt the switch click over.

Love No Contracts reference to nod value.
The kick back in Slow Train scores highly in that respect.
Like many of others on here the all time favourite varies depending on the mood.
At the moment and it has been a while it's " What to Do " . Probably too strong to call it THE all time fave , but definately a fave at the moment.

The song I keep coming back to mostly is ‘ I saw the light ‘ just a great song. Groove in abundance. Real hook of a melody Great solo and brilliant vocals. Quo to a tee for me.

I know we all like Down Down, 4500, Backwater etc, but this really sums up all I love about Quo. It’s melodic, melancholy, beautifully produced and played, crunchy but not heavy guitars. And I like the lyrics. Never, ever get bored of listening to this. Great song, Quo have so many classics as album tracks. I frigging love April Spring Summer and Weds, plus That's a Fact, for example!! Oh and Blue Eyed Lady, and , and , and.

Mystery Song breasts the tape for me - probably helped by the 'rock god' style start to the video with Rick in all his pomp. Album version my fav Quo tune of all time, just great.

The WYW, JS. NTL period of Quo is important to me and Quo at a popularity and commercial peak. Though trying to narrow down to a solitary track that sums Quo up in a sense, then for me the track going into the Quo Time Capsule would have to be 'Don't Waste My Time'.
When I went to Quo gigs with my sister in the early 80s, she would sit down as a protest against 4500X but on her feet for 'Don't Waste My Time'. I thought 4500X was wonderful myself but it clearly didn't please everyone! When I went with my band mates to see Quo at Hammersmith in the early-mid 80s, 4500X either impressed with "how do they remember what to play for that long?!" or on one occasion 4500X actually sent our keyboard player to sleep. He actually fell asleep, sat in the stair aisle in the balcony at Hammersmith! Random casual Quo fans have said to me that 'Don't Waste My Time' is something special. My teenage daughter can often be heard upstairs playing 'Don't Waste My Time' on her very loud party speaker via Spotify!
'Don't Waste My Time' does encapsulate all the Quo elements for me in a neat package, fit for a Quo time capsule.

Yeah agree with all these replies.
Who asked you isn’t the most complex, the best performance or have the most variety of light and shade. I just love the arrangement and melody.
It’s not even the most Quo, Quo song. If I had to pick that it would be 4500 live At the NEC I think

There's a plethora of songs that should have been played live and for some inexplicable reason weren't.
"Who Asked You" is one of those songs. A gem.

Something that's been debated for what seems like forever. I get the impression that the tried and trusted became some sort of mantra once they got to the late 70's and beyond. And stayed that way unless they had an album to promote. And even then sometimes.... Whatever You Want is one of those albums criminally unrepresented in the set with only the two singles getting a look in even 40-odd years ago.
