In his recent sleeve notes for Ain't Complaining, Dave Ling mentions Whatever You Want and Don't Waste My Time were rerecorded in 1987 with Mike Paxman at the helm. Were they ever released?

Strange, I never heard anything like that. Those two particular songs were re-recorded on the Under the Influence sessions, and released on the In The Army Now '98 single (I think), with Mike Paxman. Maybe it was just a mistake? ...An error of a full decade and a year

The German CD Single details are:
1998 IN THE ARMY NOW 3:54 - Caroline (Live) 4:01 - Whatever You Want (New Version) 4:24 - Don't Waste My Time ('98 Version) 4:07 (German Mercury 568 543-2) German only release issued to promote the release of the "Whatever You Want" compilation album. The bonus tracks were exclusive to this release with "Caroline" being a 'live' recording from the Brighton Centre on the 12th December 1996 and the versions of "Whatever You Want" and "Don't Waste My Time" being re-recordings. Released: 20th. April 1998.

That re-recording of WYW really sounds like a live version with audience removed...

Don’t waste my time sounds even better. Recorded similar to the RTYD album. Live..1 cut without an audience
