I think I knew most of that. Alan's interview in the tribute in "Classic Rock" pretty much nailed his view. And Francis's is well known. Rick seems to have been largely neutral. Anything that got him on TV and he'd have been happy. It's just a country-style ditty that really isn't my cup of tea. All down to taste and, although I didn't like it (and still don't), I was hardly suicidal One thing though; it did lead me to try a marguerita and I absolutely loved it. A love affair that exists to this day

In fact that cocktail is so good, it deserved a better song.

I sense Dave Ling being a bit creative with the narrative here....

Francis is lying about Alan hating RAOTW as he listed that (and Accident Prone) as some of his favourite Quo songs.
First I've heard about DW too. It was a great live song so not sure why there would be any issues with that?

Francis would have wanted to see Alan waivering his royalties, then he would have "admired the courage of his convictions". BS. If Alan had done that, Frame would have admired the extra money on his bank account.

Is there another band where the fans detest so many of the most successful songs?
I've not really noticed hate for loai. Army and AW, yes. And accident prone
Some of it self inflicted..
Burning Bridges is a shuffle (tick) It has a jig (tick)
It didn't need to be twee, but it is
Francis could have played the MT melody on his guitar, not fairground keyboards
As for this article, surprised it didn't include Alan saying he did it for Francis solo album
I didn't know Alan hated dirty water

No mention in Ling's article that the song was first meant for Rossi's solo album as Alan stated in an interview.

No mention in Ling's article that the song was first meant for Rossi's solo album as Alan stated in an interview. Interesting - If Francis had a huge solo hit with it......would that have been the end of Quo? I could definitely see a parallel timeline with a decade of solo Francis off the back of that record success, and then a big Quo reunion in the 90's or early 2000's.

The only hiccup: it was never going to be a gamechanger or a massive hit.

'With ‘Marguerita Time’, I didn’t think it was right for the band at all, but I didn’t mind recording it. Francis was making a solo thing at the time, none of us wanted to do it. Francis asked if the band would work it up because it was due for a solo thing. I thought it would be a great song for his solo thing too, I liked him working on that because I thought that stuff he was writing was against the grain of Quo’s image. But I had no problem putting down a great track for him, he liked it and it suited him. What I didn’t want was it to go on a Quo album and I had no idea it would be a single.' Alan

Alan I think was prone to selective memory and exaggeration. But then again we all are

Alan I think was prone to selective memory and exaggeration. But then again we all are It's a problem! Then along comes Dave Ling taking sides, and all of a sudden it's gospel. The truth, no matter what your bias, is surely preferrable, no? But yeah, doesn't help when both Alan and Francis are/were locked in a perpetual disagreement with polarised agendas. You either nail your colours to one particular mast, or look for truth somewhere in the middle, or just forget the whole thing as we'll never know for sure!
