But fucking magic!! It's the feeling that was sorely missed after this Can even hear John trying out a different shuffle beat for him and it still works! (In My Chair on the NTL tour was awful IMO) The best band...Lyrically, it's genius and hits home for me...I want out

Favorite track of the album for me and in my all time Quo top 5. Absolutely love the song and the dark atmosphere it radiates. Alan's bass in there is fantastic too, love the alternating between octaves ! The song touches me on an emotional level too, for personal reasons I have a deep connection with it. Francis' soloing is fantastic to me as well and really expresses the atmosphere of the song. One of the very best FF songs there is imo.

1981 and this is living proof they could still push out the classics. Fabulous track. Driving rhythm, Rossi's nasal twang in full flight, ripping guitar solos, moody, dark, atmospheric. So far away from pop Quo and Rossi/Frost Quo. And still sounds amazing to this very day - but then their best work always does.
And then came 1982!!! WTF. What happened there???

"What happened there???" John Coghlan was sacked and sadly that was the end of Status Quo as we knew it.

Yep - plain and simple, rr007! [Then, of course, they ditched AL and led us into... SQ - the Shite Years]

Alan's bass in there is fantastic too, love the alternating between octaves ! Since some years, I've been wondered if the bass was Alan's or a synth (or the two). Not the whole song, just the bass from the verses (playing just C notes, and I'm not sure if there's somewhere a G between Cs). Anyway, love it, I don't find lazy vocals, I think they're correct, very nice with a little effect, not sure what.

I don't know if it's rumour or more, but i'm sure i've read once or twice on the various SQMB's over the years that Andy occasionally filled in on bass during these sessions for JS/NTL.

Personally I don't believe there is any synth bass in the song at all. It doesn't sound like any synth bass to me anywhere in the song.

What I meant was, whilst good, considering the subject and lyrics of the song, I'd like more emotion in the voice but that's just me
