I really appreciate this era of Quo.
Good songwriting, arrangements, production and playing, in my opinion, and often very interesting but also underrated.
John Schroder did a great job with the band at the time setting them up to blossom on their own.
He did not in my opinion get the credit for this fine work and making them studio savvy (and also helped in mastering the early Quo 12 bar sound). They learned their studio craft with him and could then self produce the Frantic era masterpieces.
I always love Ricks description of being in the studio in these sessions and spinning around big dials to get the effects like a scene from a science fiction movie.
Alan produced some fantastic bass playing in this years and overall their musicianship as teenagers belies their real talent and the criticism they got later for being '3-chord wonders'. They are much more than that in these early recordings and sometimes quite complicated and intricate.
I appreciate this material much much more than what Rossi's band has put out in the last 30+ years which I find mediocre, uninspiring drivel in comparison to the magic of this 1960's material.
