Thanks for posting this Luke.
It really captures how great and energetic they were in this period .
Although my first Quo gig was two years later I can totally imagine how mad the crowd would have been down the front .
It sounds better than the NEC release I think .
Pity they didn’t film this instead !
Evokes happy memories.

Thought I would listen to this with an open mind. Sure, its fast and energetic but lacks 'oomph' and soul. Andy's keyboards all the way through it are a total distraction - if not extremely annoying.
You can really tell that half the band are not there.
I dunno. I just can't get into this, although I openly tried. Give me 76, 82, 84 or 13,14 live recordings of this song anyday.

I was at the gig but I can remember nothing about it. But I will have enjoyed it. Can't remember ever not. The rendition is very fast. Something that I never picked up on until years later. I think I prefer this version to the one at the NEC, although there isn't much in it. Just the general sound probably. I'm a bit of a purist I suppose and always preferred the song without the piano. Despite the decades that the keyboard has been there. But that's a side issue I guess and a minor point, especially when you're going nuts at a gig Ta for putting it up. So much good quality live stuff unreleased that it's a pleasure and a bonus to hear it here

Done a tap tempo test because I'm bored and can't sleep
Rick's guitar intro is 160bpm, went to 163bpm when Jeff comes in, 166bpm when Francis starts singing, 169bpm at the chorus, song's outro finishes at 170bpm
For reference: FF Hammy 2014 gig. 156bpm all the way through more or less Download 14 was 158bpm all the way through Live Alive Quo starts at 170bpm, second chorus has gone up to 175bpm, song ends up 179bpm Live 76 starts at 166bpm and is mostly consistent the way through it. Highest it got was 167bpm, drops to 164bpm at one point NEC 89, Rick's guitar actually starts at 155bpm by the time Francis starts singing the first verse, it's up at 163bpm, song ends at 172bpm.
I'm not moaning and it's not a criticism as I don't mind and I happen to love the 89 and 90 versions with Jeff on the drums. I just done that because I was bored and I remembered someone saying it Rick and Francis' fault for speeding up. Clearly that wasn't the case

Original album version seems to be around 153bpm and 157bpm. I do like that they speed it up live. Gives it more power.

Live Alive Quo starts at 170bpm, second chorus has gone up to 175bpm, song ends up 179bpm WOW, that was fast! Quo doing Maiden! NEC 89, Rick's guitar actually starts at 155bpm by the time Francis starts singing the first verse, it's up at 163bpm, song ends at 172bpm At least, the LAQ version is the fastest but it's consistent, but this...WOW...Even days before (Glasgow) he was more restrained than N.E.C. Maybe he was nervous being filmed. Jeff was doing speed (and I mean the drug) at some point throught his carrer with Quo, isn't he? (And doing jerks between recording songs, but that's another subject)

I do like that they speed it up live. Gives it more power. As do I - same goes for Little Lady! Always preferred the LAQ version of Caroline.
