On a side note “gonna teach you to love me” sounds like it was farted out in 5 mins, BUT the guitar break is excellent, and John’s change up of drumming really makes it.
I was tryhing to think of a way to say the vocals are crummy on GTTLE, but you've nailed it.
I like Waiting for a Woman, I think it's the only track on the album I regularly feel like going back to.

Like it a lot, I love the laidback feeling and Francis solo sound. One of the songs on the album

Definitely in the minority here as I find the track very bland. I recall the positive notices it got as opening salvo when the album was released, it never clicked with me.
The album as a whole I haven't gone back to really at all. I revisited QPQ recently and have to say that album still kicks with power. A few fillers, but mostly QPQ has a fire, drive and energy. Some wonderful guitar tones and solos, and some of their fieriest rockers in years.
I have revisited Bula Quo also, and found I prefer it to Backbone quite a lot. Bula has two or three absolute bangers, that may be the difference - Go Go Go, Fiji Time - bloody fine tracks.

Totally agree with you as the quo flies bb imo is very bland i really cannot see the attraction as the guitars and mix are way down compared to qpq the absence of rick is telling all imo of coarse

As far as Backbone compared to Bula Quo goes, I am exactly the other way around. Fiji time for me is one of the most horrible things they ever made. But great that you like it so much, keeps things interesting Totally agree with you about QPQ on the other hand

Have to hold my hand up and say I'm also in the Bula Quo corner. I do prefer it to Backbone and I agree with asthequoflies about Quid Pro Quo as well. There's nothing wrong with Backbone but, for me anyway, there is nothing hugely memorable on it. Waiting On A Woman is probably the pick of the bunch.

Yes, Fiji Time is s little cheesy lyrically, but musically I love it. That fullness in the sound, the huge groove, a definite highlight. BQ has three I rate very highly - Go Go Go (one of my favourite Quo tracks), Fiji Time, Run and Hide. Run and Hide lyrically talks of guns and scarpering- soundtrack lyrics, but again, musically it hits hard. Riffy chorus, terrific poppy pre-chorus. Never Leave a Friend Behind is a rollicking good time. All that Money, Running Inside my Head - both good, not as great as the standouts but nice album tracks The film I haven't seen since its release, but I have to say the album is definitely better than its reputation suggests.

That's interesting ' cos those two tracks are actually the only two tracks of Bula Quo that I do like
