Amazing really that they managed to open backbone with something that doesn't sound like anything else at all, could only be Quo and is a great song
Love it

Sticks out like a sore wossname on the Backbone album as the best track on there. For me anyway. I like Cut Me Some Slack as well but it does feel a little forced that one. A let's be Quo type thing. Waiting For A Woman is nicely laid back, beautifully played (especially by Francis) and would fit in anywhere across the decades. Yep 9/10

I think it speaks volumes I heard it but don’t remember it at all and till I opened the thread really had no idea which album it was on.

Favourite Quo Album: On The Level

They chose to open the album with a track pretty light on the guitars when they could easily have said 'we're still Quo' and opened with Cut Me Some Slack. I think that maybe says something about the direction with which they want to be perceived these days, that they threw a curveball and didn't want to start with a bang. Maybe it just builds the album, or something?

Not a bad one but it reminds of this...which is not a bad thing, especially during the solo.

I love it,clever track to start the album.
Clever lyrics,understated music.
But it works.

I love it .
It’s a good example of something slightly different but still working the parameters of what I like to hear, unlike Crazy Crazy !

It's an OK track, I like the wee guitar riff, but alas, like much of the latter output I never feel like I want to listen to it for enjoyment. Chorus is a bit shoehorned in.

The first time I heard Backbone, I thought "What is this? You have the sense that the song would start any time...But it stand still", and I don't like it. But, after some time, I started to change the thought, and now I think it's fantastic and a fresh start of an album. Much better than starting it with a prologue like metal bands or a ballad.

On a side note “gonna teach you to love me” sounds like it was farted out in 5 mins, BUT the guitar break is excellent, and John’s change up of drumming really makes it.

Thought this might be a grower but went the opposite direction for me. It's the give em up chorus that started to grate.
