He has announced he is retiring.
An absolute towering figure of my teen years.
Shame but Father Time remains undefeated.

He's got a Vegas residence I think. Saw him in '88 Edinburgh and '91 Glasgow. Steve Vai on guitar, Billy Sheehan on bass and Greg Bissonette on drums in 1988 was a great band. Oh, plus the infamous surf board over the crowd!

A monster performer - never got to see VH [one of my great regrets!] saw him twice here with his own band, brilliant and enjoyable shows too!

A proper showman. Never took it too seriously. Or certainly didn't seem to.
Also one of my regrets - like others - that I never got to see Van Halen live. A mate did back in about 1978 or something. I think they supported Black Sabbath, although I couldn't swear to that. It was something like that anyway.
Never paid too much attention to his solo career. I bought the Living In Paradise single and the Skyscraper album (which I wasn't keen on) but that was it really.

Never got to see Van Halen or solo Dave, he never came down under to tour. Shame, there's heaps of pretty girls here in Oz Dave.

He has a knack for a phrase. I remember ... "People think i can have any girl I want. I can't, I can have any girl who wants me. It's not the same."

Yeah, a great showman.
I saw him solo in the mid 90's and thought he was old looking then!

Yeah, a great showman. I saw him solo in the mid 90's and thought he was old looking then! I saw him last in Glasgow in about 2004. He was a shadow of his former self. At least he turned it around enough to have a last run with VH. Would have gone if they’d played the UK. He is a complete maverick. His solo work is patchy and hasn’t aged too well. But like many great front men, he was never a great singer. It was a package.

They were the best support act I've ever seen, completely owned the stage playing their debut album like they were superstars already (which they were!) I think I've mentioned it before but DLR memorably stated that Coventry was the Rock n Roll Capital of the world!!
