Ah, dear old Tony Blackburn. The rascal First Quo song I ever heard. Or certainly took notice of. It was played on Radio 1 endlessly and I loved it. Still do.

I knew he wrote it here but just the lyrics referring to things like turnpike , which we don’t say over here, plus don’t like the shape of my nose..? .

A good number, & an important step forward in the right direction, but not a particular favourite of mine.

Quo showing their anti-racist stance with this one.

I remember this from not too long ago: by the lyrics one would assume the writer to be jewish and not from the UK. And that proved to be right on both accounts; was he from Australia, but went to live in the US?

Quo showing their anti-racist stance with this one. I've been on this board a while now and I never can figure if you're being funny/serious/sarcastic etc.etc. (the downside of text, I guess!) - so I hafta bite the bullet on this one and ask - whaddya mean by 'anti-racist stance'? And no, I don't tend to pay much attention to lyrics, never have [obviously, I guess!] Btw, yeah - it's a great track!

I like the alternate mix where instead of fading out, it stops abruptly, and someone, Rossi i think, says sarcastically - "in my pickup truck".

It's 99% sarcasm punctuated by the occassional rant, and they're easy to spot. The lyrics of the Down The Dustpipe mention "No room for a kosher cowboy" and "Don't like the shape of my nose" a pop at anti-semitism maybe? I can't seriously suggest Quo being strong on anything politically, as long as it sells they would do it.

Because I never understood the lyrics at all (and don't even know what a dustpipe is) it was great some years back when we had a thread that explained it all
If anybody can remember any of it, please feel free to pipe up! 😁
