A magnificent piece of music. The duelling, melodic guitars of Francis and Rick on this track (I'm assuming it's them) are very possibly unrivalled in the band's entire history. The concept and execution must have confounded those in the 70's who saw them as 'lamebrains'. This has become one my very favourite Quo songs and would be the best on the album for me but for I Saw The Light. I love this

A really good one but sometimes I wish Rossi would play a better solo, he was great on Piledriver and Hello.

Absolutely brilliant song! I agree that it would have been wonderful to see i live. Predatür did a great live-version of it some ten years ago, so it would definitly not have been impossible for Quo to do it.

Yet another perfect song from the first note to the end. Quo really did nail so many fantastic songs in their ‘golden era’ of the 70s. Such a pity the general public know them only for RAOTW or Whatever You Want.

I think it maybe tied up with the tunes your Dad whistled, my Dad could go off on whistling solo's that Hendrix could only dream of. He could make The Shadow of Your Smile last for 15 minutes plus.

Such a pity the general public know them only for RAOTW or Whatever You Want. If it was anybody else it would be a masterpiece, they have loads of great lyrics but "sound the same boring Quo" couldn't possibly be given credit, what was going on critic wise in the 70's? I think the lack of Quo caring was the story. I hated the critics back then now I just laugh at them. I think younger critics who have no vested interest, all 70's/80's critics wanted to be associated with a new star that they, and only they, have discovered. Paul Morley being the best example, have given Quo a fair crack of the whip over the last 20 years

Most of my whistling sounds like feedback anyway, so respect to yer old man Actually, it's funny you should mention The Shadow of Your Smile. That was the song my mum always used to sing at those $hit family parties where they'd stop the Dansette and sit round and sing one each. Uncle John used to sing Ma Wee Monkey's Deid. Never heard it since, although I believe Pet Shop Boys were considering a perfecto mix at one point.

I know we can get a bit over-precious or defensive at times about 'our' band but Over And Done is a supreme example of why the critics in the 70's hadn't a clue. And fairly obviously never listened
