Had a listen today and used the super duper wireless headphones and my laptop equalizer, turned it to the rock setting and messed about a bit. Got to be honest it's a very good album. I only bothered with it a few times so for me it's like a new Quo album, I even like the kitchen sink production. Poor old Pip, been slagging him for years and it turns out I was wrong.

Never liked it. A huge let down from the previous albums and all went downhill from there.

Can make a decent album out of the best from this and the best from IYCSTH .
Fave track is Hard Time.
The album suffers from too many meh tracks .
* based on the remix.

Never liked it. A huge let down from the previous albums and all went downhill from there. That was my issue I reckon, I expected another BFY and this album came along. Hated it back 1977 but listening now it's still Status Quo.

Can't give you more is still one of the best songs Francis ever wrote imo, hard times and baby boy is personal favorites from the album as well. Can't stand the remix album though

Did you listen to the original or the remix mate? Remix is miles better

I went for the original,I've only done side 1 so far. I'll move on to the remix. I must say that during the final guitar solo in Rockers Rollin' the band are really doing that Quo thing, the live gig sound when they don't seem to have any inhibition, no one else can do that.

An album I always liked. I only discovered the reasons behind the sound issues years - decades - down the line. So everything said about it, I reckon, is mostly in retrospect and with the benefit of hindsight. A line in the sand had been drawn. We just didn't know it. Only those with ESPB were able to do that (extrasensory pretend bollox ). Of course, the thin sound on the album was immediately noticeable but, to be honest, my stereo at the time was hardly state of the art so I was happy enough with it. I certainly played it as much as any of its predecessors when I first bought it. Which was always day of release. It was the follow-up album that shook me a bit, not this one. John Eden's remix I very much like. For me, it improves what was already a good album that was spoiled only by the sound quality. So there

Even Baby Boy sounds better on the remix.

I think For You is one of the best sings they've ever produced perfectly pitched chords, great lyrics, the vocal is superb, it would,for me, have been great on any of their albums. It's a beautiful gentle love song, which I've never heard talked about on here.

But it was too far past the post by that time. Had they put it in the set in the late 70's, chances are it would have been received way better. There were as many perplexed faces in the crowd as there were when Blue Eyed Lady and O Baby were tried out. They've only themselves to blame

I was amazed at the frosty silence metered out to the band following rock n roll on the NTL tour I get the impression that the old audience made Quo feel they only wanted heavy. I feel this contributed to the demise of album diversity When I listen to the pumped up Glasgow crowd, I don't detect an audience wanting a romantic love song Much as francis loves it, I suspect Claudie was dropped because of crowd reaction

I think the band probably wanted some diversity in the set but that the crowd simply weren't interested. And the band knew it. Even Dirty Water felt like an unwanted lull to most of us. Although they stuck with it. Claudie went down OK but it was never in the set long. It was only played during a couple of tours - and Hello! wasn't one of them. They've persisted over the years, of course, but your average Quo fan has 'tolerated' the slower/lighter songs rather than fully enjoyed them. Rock 'n' Roll, Living on and Island, Restless, Claudie, Marguerita Time, In The Army Now, Who Gets The Love, Rock 'Til You Drop; all singles less than coincidentally . They've all been tried. I'd argue that none have gone down to huge applause except maybe Army for obvious reasons. For me, the best Quo 'ballads' - for want of a better word - were recorded decades ago. In fact, apart from Too Close to the Ground, I can't think of one that I really like since For You.
