Used to play this more than the A side back in the day. Nice laid back improvised feel to it.

yep, wore the grooves out on the AB Blues vinyl as well. A lesson in how to keep it simple (Simon) but very effective and gradually builds musically to a climatic finish and that's not being lewd by the way!
John Eden flicked the 'record' switch in the nick of time to capture the magic and hence the odd sound of the tape mechanism at the start.

But is it Francis doing all the solos? That's in my top ten of Quo-related burning questions.

AB Blues was recorded as a jam at Rick's studio/games room.
Though extra guitars/overdubs were recorded mainly at Rossi's loft studio but possibly involving Rick as well with overdubs.

AB Blues must have been their last attempt at a purely blues-based track, from where they had learned their trade ala Fleetwood Mac and Chickenshack a decade previously. I don't recall them doing any more blues after 1980, unfortunately.

I don't believe it was meant as a track - one of the very few improvised jams by Quo. (Oh no, 4500x wasn't! - that was always very, very similar each tour, so NOT a jam!). Maybe Good Thinking Batman was?
AB Blues is absolutely brilliant!

Electric Arena came close, but bluesy rather than straight blues
Love AB blues. Great that Rick plays lead, not sure Francis is on it?

Songs like 4500 times, I'm sure the first 4 mins were written but, after that, not a hope! Same with Slow Train, Lonely Man, A Year, Unspoken Words, Big Fat Mama, And It's Better Now, Blue Eyed Lady... You hear the jam element... You hear the, "Let's see if this works" element. A lot of it shouldn't but, it does Just Supposin...Rock n Roll, the outro...The feeling Rossi puts into that solo is out of this world and the instrumentation around it, just accents it...Album produced by themselves. Figures "Play bass like this" Fuck off!

I'm sure it was created/constructed as the result of a jam but when played live it certainly wasn't. I saw it enough times to know it was the same each time. Live, that is!

Ah yeah, I just meant in general, as in when the songs were "born" in the studio type thing. I just went on a rant, irrespective of your point. Sorry You're spot on about the live scenario

I believe John Eden pushed for the jam to be released as a finished track and sorted out the overdubs etc. He thought it good way for all the members of the band to get a writing credit.
