Jesus listen to the chorus effect on Rossi’s vocal at 30:00 in Dont a waste My time. Sounds god awful. The guitars seem to have it too - more noticeable when they're solo mind you. Must've been an issue with the mixing / mastering, as there's no chorus / phase on the bootleg capture of the show

Its funny, the band were at their musical peak on the 82 tour in terms of musicianship (I wouldn't say raw energy as that was depicted on Quo Live). Rossi's guitar playing was exemplary and they played as tight and as flawless as they ever played. But...as this is a big but...they couldn't capture the sound on their live releases. The Charlie gig was incredible, both fans and band would always attest to that, but the sound on the live release was flat and poorly mixed and was no way a reflection of the sound at the time. They just didn't do it justice during the mix in the studio. It was a great shame.

The decision to release a triple album, two thirds of which was a compilation with the rest mimicking the BBC coverage I always thought was odd. And disappointing at the time. No doubt there were copyright issues, I don't know. But the point I was going to make was that, lauded though the live Apollo album is, it didn't capture the band or the crowd either. They were three incredible nights unparalleled in my experience. Maybe you simply can't get that onto any vinyl. One of those 'you had to be there' jobs. So not capturing the band properly in a live setting is something that has maybe plagued them over the years. I still think the best I've heard is the Liverpool Pops recording from 2005. I keep banging on about it but the gig itself and what I've heard of the recording of it were superb.

I had that Status Quo and Friends cd from the Daily Mirror and the live tracks were from the Liverpool gig.
