The trilogy of Whatever You Want, Just Supposin and Never too Late are often described as the second golden age of the band following the disappointment of both RAOTW and IYCSTH. Whilst I rate the WYW album , both JS and NTL have their weaker tracks and as such ,on the rare occasion I play either I tend to skip quite a few.
Having posted on the Never Too Late record review page that you would need to combine the best yracks of both albums to get a truly good album , I did just that.
Calling it the Just Too Late Album I came up with the following.
Just Too Late
Side 1.
1. Over the Edge
2. Take me Away
3. Wild Ones
4. Rockin Roll ( optional)
5. Riverside
Side 2
1. Never Too Late
2. Mountain Lady
3. Carol
4. Coming and Going
I tried to give it some light and shade with the inclusion of Rock n Roll ( which I like on the Sly) and really wanted to make it a 10 track album but just couldnt add anything that hit me. Not a bad album all the same and expect you may want to add take out tracks to your taste.
Now this is where it gets interesting. If you consider ROATW and IFYCSTH . I only play the former in its re mixed form , but find that there are still too many skippers for regular play. As for IFYCSTH , its dreadful. Never bought it and never play it. I always overlook both albums until you do the same exercise as above.
Rockin The Heat album:
Side 1.
1. Again and Again
2. Rockers Rollin
3. Accident Prone
4. Who Am I
5. Hold You Back
Side 2
1. Oh What a Night
2. For You
3. Hard Time
4. Cant Give You More
5. Like a Good Girl
Again I have given it the light and shade treatment of the early classics but what an album ! Certainly would have in my opinion wiped away the disappointment after the Live album.
Think I need to make a play list of this as the tracks hardly get the play time they deserve - simply as a consequence of the weaknesses of the albums they are on.
Lost Classics ?
Either way if and it's an if my Auntie was my Uncle moment , the two fantasy albums had been released instead of the 4 , there would have been no lull or talk of second golden age ( not from me anyway).
1*9*8*2 and Back to Back - Back to 82 anyone? Naaah not me either.
(I know I trashed Again and Again on a recent post , but the album version isnt that bad . )
