Such sad news: Martin Birch, legendary sound engineer and producer, has died aged 71. I knew him from all the Iron Maiden albums he worked on, but yesterday I read about his staggering contribution on countless other masterpieces. He worked with Fleetwood Mac during the Peter Green years! He produced 'Heaven and Hell' with Sab! He worked with Purple from 69 til 77 (think In Rock, Machine Head, Burn et all); with Whitesnake: all the albums that matter (from Snakebite 78 to Slide It In 84). And the list goes on and on, including MSG, Canned Heat, the Faces and Gary Moore. He even produced Rising(!), an album someone on here must be familiar with. Martin Birch, you were a legend. Rest in Peace.

Yeah, that's a name I'll see on a lot of my old albums. Genuine classics. He must have been quite young to work with the Fleetwood Mac of the Peter Green years and also Purple in '69. Bring back the birch! RIP
