I spotted on twitter that today, 16th April this album was released in 1982. We could not believe back then that the band had been going for 20 years! It seemed so long and much longer than I'd been into pop/rock music.
I remember rushing to buy it and playing it a lot as I did with all new releases back then. Never think of it now, nor have I replaced it in a digitial version.

I like quite a bit of the album but some dreadful stuff on it too like ILRNR. I Should have Known has always been one of my favourite Quo tracks. Cheers

Remove all the Rossi/Frost songs and it's not a bad album. Some poor production but I've always thought "Resurrection" would be great in the live set, there's a couple more on there it would be good to hear live with Richie on lead vocal.

I was a new arrival in Quoland then so it was my first Quo albums and I enjoyed it. Even now I can still hear some remnants of the "Quo sound" on it. "Doesn't matter" was a favourite, and I see it's a Rossi/Frost song -not typical of those two at all. ILR&R was sadly not very good at all, but I could ignore it. I also committed thedreadful Quo sin of liking Big Man. (I still do.)
So Happy Birthday 1+8+9+2 20 years of Quo then, more than 30 years have gone since. Doesn't time fly!

Only the live performances delayed the realisation that it was all over, that hit me in '86, but all the evidence was in those grooves.

Cheers Yep - I go along with that and I gotta say I've always been really disappointed with ALs song contributions on it, bloody awful things! Anyway, next up was the even worse BtoB - and by then we all knew the end wasn't just 'nigh' it was here and slapping us in the face. And to think, worse was to come. Sad.

I didn't get as far as Back to Back , as this album was the one that finished it for me thirty seven years ago . Was Back to Back named as it was another dreadful album following 1+9+8+2?

Yeah, this is sort of a transitional album. It's better than BTB, but the formula is starting to get diluted.
The change in drumming didn't help the album, but I doubt John's being on it would have improved the album all that much either.
I do like about half of it, but it's not a particularly interesting album.

i remember going into sleeves records in falkirk to purchase the album and upon opening the doors i was confronted by merch posters and cardboard cutouts all over the place advertising said album........i stood there just looking in awe of my fav band plastered on every wall, such innocence back then i played it to death.

II must be the only person here that likes ILRR, it took me twenty years to see what he was trying to do with the lyrics but I now always play it when I play the album.
The production is poor, but that was probably due to all the ructions (Rossi played drums on some tracks), Tjere was some good stuff in there but a couple of clangers(Big man ).
It was streets ahead of the dreadful Back to Back which unplayable for me.
We had to wait til Under the influence for the next decent studio outing, that was a very lonnnng wait.

II must be the only person here that likes ILRR You're not! I think it rolls along quite nicely, like the vibe, and the outro refrain has some nice chords. I guess it's the cheesey lyrics folk have a problem with? I like some of the stuff Alan did on his own. Let's Ride is another unpopular one i like. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I Want The World To Know is a bit clunky. Big Man, just weird. But good to have some experimentation away from the Quo mould, from Alan.

She Don’t Fool Me, err, didn’t fool Me. But it rocks along reasonably well, but not anywhere near a single. The only single should have been Dear John, maybe Quo by numbers, but still had snatches I’d that old Quo spirit.
If I was being generous maybe 6.5/10 for the album.

Dear John was a very good single. Has there been a better one since ?
I like Big Man. Starts weakly , but builds into a decent aor thing.
The album is flawed. Young pretender has bad bits and great bits, typifies the record for me
Nothing about it that makes we want to go back. Resurrection probably my favourite , and thats somehow feels a bit flawed too.
A band reaching out for new things. Resurrection - the most traditional offering , the most enjoyable.

Get Out and Walk and Resurrection is quite good tracks. I Should Have Known is bad produced (sounds almost like a demo recording to be honest) but has potential as a song. Some other listenable tracks as well but over all not very exciting.
