.. 1975 The year started with Quo at number 10 in the UK single's chart, moving up to 3 the following week. I listened to Radio 1 on a Tuesday lunchtime to hear Johnnie Walker announce the new number 1..."up 1 at 3 Kenny with the bump, still at number 2, Streets Of London by Ralph Mctell and up 2 places to number 1, Down Down by Status Quo". Moving on to February and the release of the Album 'On The Level' My sister bought me the album for my birthday, so I didn't get to play it until a week later. On March 1st, it was announced it had gone straight in to the UK album charts at number 1. Also on that day, Quo performed the recent hit Down Down on a new pilot programme on London Weekend Television called 'Supersonic' a rock & pop programme, introduced by Mike Mansfield. In the evening with a few mates, after a few drinks to celebrate my 18th birthday we watched the band perform a storming, no nonsense, loud, in ya face concert at the local Kursaal ballrooms in Southend. In April I read in Record Mirror, that my favourite Quo track 'Roll Over Lay Down,'was going to released as the A side of a live ep, recorded in Southend. The ep was released in the middle of May and reached number 9 a month later in the UK. The ep was in the chart when I saw Quo perform at the Empire Pool Wembley on June 5th & 6th for 2 more outstanding gig's. The year ended with me and a few mates spending the afternoon in the pubs in London on New Year's Eve, before making our way to Olympia where the band played to see in the new year......1976, now that's another story!!

Good topic, although I really think it's only fans who were there in the glory years that can comment. As hugely enjoyable as much of my Quoing as been, the band has been openly flawed since my first gig in 86. No year stands out for me, eg 88 was great as I saw them 3 times and they were brilliant. It was also depressing as I hated the new direction and new image.

Got to be 1979. First gig at the City Hall, Sheffield. Lots of gigs, great times since. Right up to my last one in Liverpool the day before that fateful Christmas eve.. 😟😟

1975...Down Down On TV hit me like a ton of bricks, followed by Roll Over Lay Down , which reached no.1 on the charts here. I then bought On The Level which was pure heaven...then out of the blue ‘THE AD’ appeared in the local rag saying Status Quo appearing at Canberra Theatre ....deadset couldn’t believe what I was reading!! That was my first live gig and what a blast it was as everyone stood on their seats and bounced for 2 hours... and that was just the matinee session as they got back on stage a couple of hours later to do it all again with a few hundred broken seats.

I had seen the band in the 70s but will highlight 1981.
1980 had been beset with all manner of problems for the band. The most awful being Rick's daughter. Rick also had joint (not those ones) problems and there were band health issues. It wasn't the best of times with the inner circles and Bob Y and Francis really drifting apart. Hoping it would all sort itself out but alas it wasn't to be for another 20 years.
That all said it was with some relief that the band announced a tour for 1981. Had wondered if it could all be over in terms of touring at that point. Though didn't realise it would be the last tour with John Coghlan at the time. Had a feeling that getting back on tour would help Rick in some way, some sort of focus.
Went to the Quo gigs at Hammersmith, Birmingham NEC and Wembley Arena in 1981.
They played what were then new tracks from WYW, JS and NTL, so especially enjoyed the shake up of the set.

Around about 1976/1977 when I first became aware of them through my older brother playing some music that sort of went jinka jinka jinka. Who are these ? Quo , and that was it. Can't narrow it down to a specific year though, so going to say 2009 when I got back into them. Also the year Rossi admitted he looked ridiculous so cut his ponytail off.

Standout year was 1979 for me. Numerous gigs at Paris, Wembley, Hammersmith and NEC but 2013/2014 are close too!

1975 would have been a fine year if I had been paying attention, but I wasn't. 1982 was my first Quo Live year, and it was a fine year. Sitting in my sister's oldcar in darkest Wales somewhere, listening to the live or just-post-live NEC gig, refusing to get out of the car till the broadcast finished and someone brought me a large cup of tea. And found my favourite shoes which I had lost track of a new months earlier. I also got signed by Francis Rick and Alan (not in that order) at Hammy a few weeks earlier. Beginners luck! And heard 4500 Times for the first time in my life.
It was followed the next year by the band announcing that they were giving up touring, but I still felt lucky.
