Love Juniors as an opener on this with it's chug along start. One of my fave tracks. Works perfectly after the intro. One of my fave intros to any live album, ever as well...and yes my vote goes for JW over Caroline as an opener. Do like Caroline as an opener to the encore though ( won't mention how bad the encores have become as that's a different thread) . Caroline has that guitar blast That gets you straight into it. The chug along JW builds it up . That last sentence is a very good point DTIM ! I have always loved Caroline as opener and always will but yes, the build up of JW is indeed different and builds it up .

I'm not generally all that keen on live albums, although I appreciate them more now than I used to. This one's an all time classic. Sadly, it also rather marked the end of an era. It may not have quite been all down hill from there, but they never again achieved the heights they'd attained in the early-mid seventies.

Oh that's the first time in a long time that I hear someone say they are not that keen on live albums generally ! Same goes for me, but this one is one of the exceptions of course !

Raw and exciting. What can you say about Roadhouse Blues..really feel you are there in the crowd...crowd and band as one.
I may get shot down in flames for this comment but a think there are different and better versions of Caroline live from 82 and 84 and the FF in 2014...this version from 76 whilst very of its time is just a bit too frantic compared to the studio version from 73.
Caroline cannot be beaten ax a opener in my view despite the obvious merits and soft spot for Juniors as a starter.

Where's the best place to listen to live! ? Probably the car at high speed. Had this idea if anyone fancies it. Will wait til xmas sometime to listen . Unlike the albums we've done so far, I can't pretend it's years and years since I've listened to it! Obviously I'm biased, but I do like live albums, and I rate this as the best there is.

Yep probably the car is my choice for music most days but occasionally I’ll sit back on the lounge with headphones ( with a whiskey) It’s been a while since I’ve listened to Quo LIVE but this thread has reignited my interest.

Does anyone know why they didn’t play Down Down especially as it was their only No. 1 hit? I reckon they could’ve slipped it in to replace In My Chair.

I remember one of them saying they couldn't get DD to work for years. Didn't say why. I guess it's got that x-factor sound and groove that's hard to replicate. And i don't think they've ever managed (or tried) to replicate that beautiful jangly Tele sound of the intro.

Its like opening the advent calendarand getting your favourite treat isn't it. After Juniors , the awesome Backwater/Just Take Me. The reunion just reinforced how good these go together. So suited to Als voice and so sadly missed over the intervening years. JTM giving Spud the chance to come to the fore. Frantic opening , just brilliant. The chug along Juniors to the giving it all JTM. ...now breathe..

Looking back on it now it must’ve been a big decision not to play DD, being the international no.1 hit it was, live as that song would’ve dragged quite a few people to their gigs BUT the sheer power of their performance and setlist over rode their need to play it. I know I certainly didn’t miss it when I saw them....and I know my ears didn’t miss it either as they were ringing for days after! 😉

If being picky, then as much as Alan's vocals were an integral and important part of Quo's gigs, I did think back then that 4 tracks in a row were a bit unnecessary and other permutations could have worked just as well if not better for me. Prefer 'Caroline' over JW as an opener, though JW is no lame duck. Though the running order is so ingrained in my mind now that it would be odd to hear it any other way.
The mix highlights Rick's and Rossi's different guitar styles/parts with a bias of each coming from different speakers. Reminds me of how Lizzy used to have Gorham and Robertson panned to different sides of the mix.
As Rick used to say, the Live album was were they were at and a good showcase of what they were about. Francis says he is disappointed that many fans think it's Quo's greatest album though we know Francis sometimes puts the blinkers on and usually wants to only look forward.
The whole package and presentation of the sleeved vinyl LPs and gate-fold sleeve gave an air of quality and matched by a convincing and honest stage performance. Recorded over 2 or 3 nights wasn't it?...but most of the album is from the first night I believe.

As a time capsule it’s priceless.
Great recording of the band just as they have reached their creative peak for me.
It says who Quo were.
I think it speaks volumes that it is one of only three classic live albums I listen to.
8/10

After the opening salvo of three , and a bit of Rossi banter I feel if you were going to put Down Down in , it could've gone next on the set list. For me whilst Is There a Better Way keeps up the tempo , it's the only one with possibly Caroline that doesn't get the 10 out 10 from me. Still a corker mind and sets up the main body of the gig.
