Needed a Rossi Vocal at the 4th track. Side 1 is too unbalanced Vocally. To me Alan’s vocals were 100% better at the 2013 reunion to be homest than on live 76. I would have stuck ‘ Rollin Home ‘ in there. You can here someone screaming for it if I remember rightly. To me the album sounds a bit too Bass as well. Compared to JW on the ROLD EP. I preferred the sound on that. That’s me just being picky about things as I still like it but I prefer Studio albums.

This is not the album of the month…it's the album of all times!
As been said it's the peak of the band we know as Status Quo.
I will never forgot the days when this album was released, long long times before internet and mobile phones…
People everywhere talked about this, the girls in school said it was so heavy and raw that they couldn't listen to it,what a good sign.
Personally I just loved Ricks guitar sound on this, hard to explain, but that raw buzzin chug,it really makes the hair on the back of the neck to stand up.
It's only one other live album I listen to these days, recorded at the Rainbow Theatre in London 31-12-77,It's Alive from the Mighty Ramones!

As a time capsule it’s priceless. Great recording of the band just as they have reached their creative peak for me. It says who Quo were. I think it speaks volumes that it is one of only three classic live albums I listen to. 8/10 The other 2 being? The only other 2 for me are Kiss Alive and Bob Segar Live Bullet. My other 2 are If you want blood and Maidens Live after death.

Favourite Quo Album: Hello!

...but being biased, I prefer the Kursall ep version of Roll Over Lay Down. (9/10) Me too, JW and ROLD on the EP are the best versions ever, unmatched, unbeaten! I may get shot down in flames for this comment but a think there are different and better versions of Caroline live from 82 and 84 and the FF in 2014...this version from 76 whilst very of its time is just a bit too frantic compared to the studio version from 73. Caroline cannot be beaten ax a opener in my view despite the obvious merits and soft spot for Juniors as a starter. This! Caroline is by far my favourite track by Quo, by far the best opener, but the Live! version is my least favourite one, don't know why though... Does anyone know why they didn’t play Down Down especially as it was their only No. 1 hit? I reckon they could’ve slipped it in to replace In My Chair. I remember one of them saying they couldn't get DD to work for years. Didn't say why. I guess it's got that x-factor sound and groove that's hard to replicate. And i don't think they've ever managed (or tried) to replicate that beautiful jangly Tele sound of the intro. I think it was Alan who said it was too high energy to play the way it should be played/was recorded. And I agree, they never managed to recreate (especially) the intro sound though I like the '82 and '84 versions of it. Probably the studio version (the intro at least) was overdubbed with some more guitars, maybe even an acoustic one in the background?
Anyways, I'm not too keen on live album in general as well and this is not my favourite live album by Quo (I'll get my coat) but still rate it very highly. Incredible power and energy, the crowd is mental, the songs are beyond any doubt - 8,5/10 from me!
PS: And yes, another criticism of mine are the 4 Alan tracks at the beginning, should've mixed it up a little.

I don't know what it is about In My Chair, just love it. Then you get what I think is one of the most Quoing sounding songs that there is, Little Lady segging into Most of The Time. The reunion version of 2013 might have been more atmospheric with the elongated outro but three belter in a row.

Rain : full of energy and in the words of lymyrd skynryd TURN IT UP ! Stand out song of the whole album imo. This is Quo at the top of their game. Ok you can hear Andy's keys but notwithstanding that ,with what's still to come , this is the meat of the gig. I am rather partial to this one!

i love ricks guitar tone during Roadhouse Blues his chugging power chords really move the song. At the Dublin 14 gig he had the same tone effect which was great shame Rossi was being a dick on stage at Alan walking off with Rick & Bob IMO (could be wrong) yet Rick's guitar tone was great IMO amidst the tension clearly on stage during Roadhouse.

Great album. Their live set included some of their best songs rather than their greatest hits. That makes this a great collection. This is in my top 3 live albums among with "Made in Japan" and "Live and Dangerous".

If being picky, then as much as Alan's vocals were an integral and important part of Quo's gigs, I did think back then that 4 tracks in a row were a bit unnecessary and other permutations could have worked just as well if not better for me. Prefer 'Caroline' over JW as an opener, though JW is no lame duck. Though the running order is so ingrained in my mind now that it would be odd to hear it any other way. The mix highlights Rick's and Rossi's different guitar styles/parts with a bias of each coming from different speakers. Reminds me of how Lizzy used to have Gorham and Robertson panned to different sides of the mix. As Rick used to say, the Live album was were they were at and a good showcase of what they were about. Francis says he is disappointed that many fans think it's Quo's greatest album though we know Francis sometimes puts the blinkers on and usually wants to only look forward. The whole package and presentation of the sleeved vinyl LPs and gate-fold sleeve gave an air of quality and matched by a convincing and honest stage performance. Recorded over 2 or 3 nights wasn't it?...but most of the album is from the first night I believe. Recorded over 3 nights, and the album is a mixture of the best from those nights, as my understanding goes and from what I've been told. Would be great if the tapes were remixed. Cheers

Back to the age/generation thing again.
At this time QUo really were at the top of their game both recorded and more so live.
Bit by bit thereafter they were diminished.
Younger people may prefer later work, old farts won't.
PS I'M AN OLD FART.

Me, I love Live albums - and this was the 2nd one I really got crazy into [the first was Made in Japan - the original vinyl issue] Y'know how folks say 'I played it until it wore out...' - well I played SQ-Live SO much that I can't believe it didn't wear out. THIS IS imho the Definitive 'pre-F**king around' Quo album, I still LOVE it and I don't care if there's mistakes on it - it's how a live album should sound, as though humans played it. It's a million miles from FR's preferred pap, so I can understand why he farts on it endlessly - doesn't mean he's right tho'!! An Historical artifact - a CLASSIC.

As much as I love this album, I'm also very partial to the 1973 BBC gig, and Rick's guitar tone on that one is just pure electricity! (I think this is when he was still playing the Gibson SG, right?)

I bought the Live album , shortly after I had seen them for the very first time at Brid Spa Hall. The one thing I remember that really encapsulates that gig and its pushing 40 years ago now , was listening to Forty-Five Hundred Times on this album. Just sheer joy , it was only a couple of years after the release , so it was still a very similar version. When I listen to it now, its still sixteen minutes and forty one seconds of pure Quo nostalgia and I love nostalgia!
