I didn't know until today that this track was planned to be released as a single, QUO15, until it was cancelled and replaced by the Going Down Town Tonight Re-Recording... Shame Ricks version is still yet to be released I'm also going to guess that I Wonder Why was meant to be the B-Side for this single

That is right. It was originally due to be released in February 1984.

Wonder why TCTTG was shelved. Did Rick say something?

That is right. It was originally due to be released in February 1984. Along with a planned poster pack that was going to be issued. QUO15 & QUOPO-15

Wonder why TCTTG was shelved. Did Rick say something? Was more than likely down to the Record Label... although the song would have probably sold well coming out in February, Valentines day and all. Perhaps they wanted the band to put out an up-beat song, but I'd love to know how they found the time to re-record Going Down Town Tonight... Considering they had to do it before May, and by April they were already out on tour and before that they would have had their usual week of rehearsals at some point in March... unless it was already in the pipeline to be released?

I also come to find out that AIR Studios in Montserrat is now known as Rock n' Roll Ruins since being destroyed by a hurricane in 1989, and a bunch of tape reels are just left sitting there, which is understandable if nothing is on them but if there is why weren't they "rescued"

Alcohol, drugs, the break up of the band, family traumas, feeling alone and trapped...
Rick's vocal would have been emotive

I'd have loved to have heard Rick's version too.
My feeling is that GDTT - is more bouncy and upbeat. And despite plenty of dark lyrics, most popular Quo tracks are very bouncy.

I'd have loved to have heard Rick's version too. My feeling is that GDTT - is more bouncy and upbeat. And despite plenty of dark lyrics, most popular Quo tracks are very bouncy. Which resulted in crap like CGYM, IDMI, TWIG etc being released as lead singles and the subsequent albums bombing because the aforementioned songs didn't have any depth to them. ITAN disproves the theory that Quo singles have to be "happy" and "fun". It's one of their most popular hits.

TCTTG would’ve been a great choice as a single instead of GDTT - even with Rossi’s vocals on it. Rick’s version would have been superb, I hope we get to hear it some day if the tape exists. YKOL would also have been a better alternative to Margy Time....but management will say it was a good call as somehow it got to number 3 in the charts!
