All good sci fi suggestions so far (obviously ignoring Davy's selection). I have reluctantly decided to drop Close Encounters as I love the others more and I don't think it's aged as well as the others... I love The Day The Earth Stood Still, my favourite of that classic 50's era but there are some other brilliant ones... This Island Earth, The Thing from another World, The Time Machine, The Village of the Damned, War of the Worlds.... Gort or Robby the Robot? 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' really should be in my five picks, but it's near impossible to narrow the choices down to 5. There's many classic sci-fi movies from that era, like the movies you mention above. 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' is another classic, then there's the '78 remake, which on another day might've made my 5. There's just so many great movies too choose from. Yes there are too many really to choose just 5. Gort definitely trumps Robbie for me! And I loved Michael Rennie in it. Just going off on a tangent, but I always thought that the line "one day Bobby, I'll tell you about a train that doesn't need tracks" ... was the inspiration for the Airplane line ".... have you ever seen a grown man naked?" I don't know why.. maybe just the way he says it Loved Invasion of the Body Snatchers too!

Wasn't having a go. I forgot all about it until you mentioned it but now remember it being a decent movie. Yea sorry about that , I accidently read forget instead of forgot, deleted my post. My apologies DT, I wanted to add something before but was interrupted a few times. Yes, Freejack is indeed a decent movie to watch, I like the story line and the bit special thing for me about that movie is the role Mick Jagger plays...imo most musicians show horrible acting skills, but Mick Jagger actually does a pretty decent job I think. It's a movie worth watching.
