It "inspired" me to go listen to similar tracks in that vain..
Rock n Roll, Island, etc....
Now, I don't know why Rhino isn't as creative or why he doesn't play them right, maybe Francis tells him what to play but, fuck me, Alan was one hell of a unique, creative bass player.
His little runs and fills are just brilliant. It almost, dare I say it, gives you this feeling of warmth.
Hero!

I agree 😃
I have a slightly different point to make about his playing in addition to what you said.
If you look at Over the Edge, he keeps it on the low F# through the verses whilst the others play the chords of the song.
I like how he keeps it basic.
I think he may have used the same technique on Rain for the verses.

As I know absolutely f*cking nothing about bass playing, could you explain what Rhino does wrong in his playing in this clip...

Absolutely love Ricks parts for this song...
If they'd have done a Reunion tour with Andy, it would have given them the opportunity to do this song and other tracks again like Over The Edge.
The 2006 version of Dirty Water was dire... for some reason Andy was playing guitar instead and it was in B instead of C due to Rossi's voice

Absolutely nothing wrong. It's great. But, it doesn't have the tone and style that Alan brought to the song. Also, certain little runs are missing. Nothing major but, stuff that gives Alan the edge. Plus, it's nowhere near as dominant

I remember one sequence on Roadhouse blues on the LAQ DVD,when Rhino tried to improvise and do something 'outside the box'....he got told off by Frame immediately...

Always found that whistle strange.. . It's like Andy is a school principal, breaking up a fight in the school yard.
Odd one.

Obviously Fisherman from the old SQMB would disagree but Alan's contribution as a songwriter and vocalist is sorely missed. His contribution as a bass player was superb and his parts were always right for the song.He could keep it simple when it was needed to be kept simple and when the bassline needed to be more melodic,he could produce the goods, for example Hard Time from the RAOTW album.

However,it wasn't the worst thing on that clip. That "honour" goes to the most horrifically pre-planned and fake "rocking out" at around 5 mins 40 secs.
