I must have cloth ears 'cos I can't hear slide guitar on that track but I can hear Francis. According to the Quo official site they produced this album. Pip is credited as producer on RAOTW, IYCSTH and WYW. Pip was gone until the Army album from my understanding. Almost... he produced The Wanderer, but other than that you're right.

Re : Slide guitar on Resurrection. I thought that, but did Pip have anything do to with 1+9+8+2? I must have cloth ears 'cos I can't hear slide guitar on that track but I can hear Francis. According to the Quo official site they produced this album. Pip is credited as producer on RAOTW, IYCSTH and WYW. Seconded. Do people mean the "second solo" and the outro? That doesn't sound like a slide guitar to me, just some bends and squeaky on the strings. I've seen more convincing impressions of slide done by guitarists with no slider or bottleneck, I don't think he's even trying to do "slide". It just sounds like the two solos were recorded at different times with slightly different tones.

Wasn't there some pedal steel on one of the 12 inch singles from the '80s? I suppose that wasn't Rossi either! Correct. That was played by Guido "The Horse" Tamburrini, a specialist on the electric coffee table. Ah yes, electric coffee ...

Pip probably played slide guitar on Obstruction Day and apparently guitar on many of the songs he produced/wrecked. It is hard to believe that Rossi let him play his guitar parts but seems to be the case.
Rossi is also credited as playing 'sitar'(Coral) and synthesiser on Graham Bonnett's 'Night Games'!
I hope he played slide on on Reason for Living and did a quality job (or did he bring in his Quarry stable mate Rory Gallagher! Don't know what to believe any more.)

Have you ever SEEN him do it?...... Yep Uses it here on the main riff and the little hooks in the verses But this is far from lapsteel or pedalsteel playing which you can hear on Resurection and ARFL. I know Pip did some lapsteel playing on the outro of RAOTW, but he shouldn't be involved in 1+9+8+2.

I've just found it on youtube & that is the song I was thinking of. A track from post '81 that I actually quite like, if I forget it's meant to be Quo (!), as I recall the 12 inch version is better - probably because of that aforementioned solo.

Yes RFL does sound like proper slide. The story accumulates that Francis did not so much "let" Pip play guitar, but just told him to. Francis must have been going through one of his real boredom phases. It's not a good sign, is it? It's one thing to have a guest guitarist on now and then, but quite another to to "oh go on, you do it." I seem to recall Pip appeared live with them once or twice - as a guest, not as a stand-in. Of course at that time I didn't know he'd been providing lead guitar on some of the recordings.

I like that, and I'm quite happy to hand it to Quo, even though it's orchestrated and a ballard. It's not actually swamped, and it's a pretty song.
