I have never ever before heard that the NTL tour was some kind of farewell and that there were discussions abou splitting up already by then?!?! The first crack, when Spud left came totally like a flash from a clear blue sky for me, and I remember first reading about it in swedish papers somewhere between christmas 81 and the first week in 82. Not a single Word from the fanclub before that. And what about the concert movie? Was any concert during the NTL tour actually filmed? Or even recorded? This is indeed strange "news" to read now; some 36 years afterwards!

They were going to quit touring in 1981 and make a film called Boys in Blue?? It's a foreshadowing. It was shelved as they were worried people might confuse them with The Police. Pending investigation.

But I suppose it wouldn't be in the interests of the fanclub to broadcast any news of the possibility of a split.

You may be right about that Curious Girl, but I think/feel/believe that it should have been big headlines in the fan club (there was a very good swedish fan club in those days) and the rumour would have spread like uncontrolled fire back in the days when Quo was the religion so to say. I remember how devastated I was when I read that Spud had left, it was almost like geting the news that a close relative had died.... If they had announced the NTL tour as a possible farewell tour I believe that there would have been even more fans at the gigs, and the album would have peaked even higher in the charts. Strange indeed that these rumours didnt reach Sweden

Strange indeed that these rumours didnt reach Sweden Yes, I too was very upset when John left. And there was that feeling of uncertainty about how the band would continue. That I also remember well. But the rumours didn't reach me either and I lived in South London. I suppose the internet means news travels more easily and widely. I didn't regularly buy music papers. And if I did, it was NME or Melody Maker and not Record Mirror. So I guess that's why I never heard this before either.
