Many opinions on here as to reasons as to the bands change of direction. It's age, nothing more nothing less. It might disappoint us. But live with it. Im not sure I like what they are doing now,but can't blame them. Take the money and run,as my dad would say. Fair comment and fair enough. Not sure I'm convinced, as Francis has been saying he's always preferred this stuff etc and I don't really see how standing up playing this is any different to standing up playing the rock set. I'd say that the whole David Walker outlook has been "you are old now for playing rock n roll....you may only have a few years left.......so do this & take the money and run". With respect Pete, we've had a heck of a lot of taking the money and running for a heck of a lot of years! The consequence has been to dismantle the majority of what was the most loyal and fanatical fanbase in rock. Two things: 1. Agree with you about Rhino. Nothing he has said or supposedly done justifies unpleasant abuse. 2. I believe this fanbase is crying out for detailed interviews now with all members past n present. It's easy to take quotes out of context, some of which have made purely to sell product / shift tickets. Detailed interviews - done by a fan who understands the different issues....would be very interesting right now.

Quote from Jeff Rich in the authorized '86 Quo biography:- "John's not another Alan either; I mean he was never going to go for the 'three heads down thing' cos it would have been taking the piss. We've just adapted and we hope the "billies" will take to it, seeing is believing and I reckon this is the hardest Quo have ever been on stage - whatever the line-up" Word for word from the book - seriously??? Emmm

I blame Jeff Rich more than anyone for the dreadful change in the Quo "sound" post 86 with his massively too fast tempos and gallopy drumming, you can see why "Poppy Pip" employed him as session drummer on Rick's solo album, he fitted Pip's pop sensibilities to a tee. I remember seeing my first gig with the post 86 line up and being shocked at how radical the change in the classic songs was, having been used to seeing Spud at the helm for years and then actually having taken to Pete Kircher's metronomical, unflashy style, which always came over far better live than in the studio.

Spot on! After seeing them on the In the Army tour I never went back - until the reunions, of course!

Even Rick said in 1986 how more powerful the new line up was than the old one. Reality soon caught up with fantasy and those summer '86 support gigs, complete with spiky haired, twirly fingered bass player and spandex clad drummer, gave way to a tour at the end of '86 complete with roadies playing with Punch And Judy puppets above the amplifiers. You know what I enjoyed about the '86 and '88 tours?.It was the 10-15 segment in the encore where they would just sod about and jam.The rest of the set was not "harder",just faster but without a solid foundation. If they were harder, why was Rhino asked to use a plectrum around 1992?. And was this new "kick ass" line up the same line up that recorded the "kick ass" trio of albums that was ITAN,Ain't Complainin' and Perfect Remedy?.
