Its about Rights and not about technology. They haven't paid for Rights to air this material outside the UK. CG how do you know that? Just asking. We got Alan's interview over to you guys no probs. I used to work in the meedja. Australia (or that particular station) will probably have different agreements for broadcast.

Always amazes me how they can put a man on the moon(actually12) but we still have trouble with this stuff. Its about Rights and not about technology. Just watched it now. Must have been their quickest interview - under 2 mins. Really they were there to explain line-up change and to plug the new album.
Francis had been well coached on Rick's heart attack "as he said in his press released, its payback for his wild life."
Ritchie was introduced as a new member of the band.
When asked about how the tour was going with Ritchie replacing Rick, Francis said, "Its given us a kick up the derriere. I hate admitting that a young person has added something but they do."

Always amazes me how they can put a man on the moon(actually12) but we still have trouble with this stuff. Not much to see - only about 3 minutes. Francis talking about Rick's wildman past having caught up with him, Richie being asked about his style (err, Rick's), tour going well, given them all a kick up the arse. Francis liked her dress, think's he'd look good in it, turns to Richie, 'there, told you it would be easy', the end.

Ever since David Walker died they dropped that 1965 thing. Which the band always hated Francis and Rick have always said the band started in 1962. Which of course it didn't start then. Its always just been a gimmick. Yes protoQuo may have started but it wasn't Status Quo. Not until 67. Nice to see i went to the n e c for the 20th anniversary gig For feck all then At least charles didnt pay for his feckin ticket!!

Nice to see i went to the n e c for the 20th anniversary gig For feck all then At least charles didnt pay for his feckin ticket!! 20th anniversary was only cos 1982 added up to 20. The authorised biography that I have pub in 79, and with a preface written in 78 says, " Right, we're on! Where are we going to start? Seventeen years together... you've got to be joking!" And then ch 1 starts with 1962 meeting and first gig. I agree that the name didn't change until 67 but in the early days of Quo, their history always began with 1962 and how their sound evolved. It was the only way I could get my head around the early psychedelic period which I was too young to remember and listened to retrospectively when I stumbled across cassette compilations of those songs at WH Smiths in Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre*. (and recently demolished). So the 1982 anniversary always made total sense to me. What has never made sense to me is the alteration to 67 and Rick joining and the name change. *ref for RR17 who I believe shopped there also.

Although they may have met in 62, there was no band to speak of. They couldn't play an instrument at that point. Although always no more than a marketing ploy it doesn't matter at all. The Van Halen brothers started playing together as children do they say, the band Van Halen was formed at that point. I can't think of any long lasting band who have used the marketing crutch of anniversaries as Status Quo. For most they seem to come and go and no one noticed. So what band did Rick join ?

Its always just been a gimmick. Yes protoQuo may have started but it wasn't Status Quo. Not until 67. Not that Quo knew about it themselves. The band had already been created in 1967, FR,AL,JC were its members since 1962. RP wasn't a creator of a new band, he just got an invitation to an already existing band (which was signed to a RC since 1966 and had released 4 singles), because its producer thought there was a need in another vocalist. Rick's arrival had nothing to do with the band getting the new name (The) Status Quo. It's not even clear whether Rick took part in the recording of POMM which was released as a single in the late 1967. Here's a few anniversary dates: 1967 - Spectres/Traffic/Traffic Jam the band celebrates their 5 years anniversary (Jess Jaworski, the original keyboard player gets an invite and he tells about it in a 2000's interview to Dutch Quo fan club) 1975 - Quo release ROLD-live EP to coincide with the band's 13th birthday 1982 - Quo celebrate their 20th anniversary, 1982=XX 1982 - John Shearlaw publishes "THE AUTHORISED BIOGRAPHY - THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION" (a renowned version of "THE AUTHORISED BIOGRAPHY" from 1979) 1986/1987 - John Shearlaw publishes "THE AUTHORISED BIOGRAPHY - THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION" 1990 - Quo's then new manager David Walker wants to make some event that same year, he takes a Quo biography book and finds that Francis and Rick met in 1965. So a new "anniversary" is made up. That's when and how the regular chronology got tangled.

Francis rossi looked bored there not surprised really with those two interviewers Oh well it's all promotion at least they got it right that the band been together 54 years Cheers Ever since David Walker died they dropped that 1965 thing. Which the band always hated Francis and Rick have always said the band started in 1962. In fact even after Walker's death there were rumours that TPAOY was going to become their 40th anniversary album in 2005, allegedly with guest appearances from the likes of Bon Jovi and Lars Ulrich, but all those plans, if they ever existed, were abandoned, thanks God.
