That looks interesting! I was going to ask where it was recorded but then clicked on the more images link under the album cover pic and saw it was Stockholm 71. Do you think they are all from the same radio concert as the youtube clip? Yes they are!

There's a snippet in the Hello Quo FF jam. Thanks Railie Only just realised it's one of Alan's! (with Roy Lynes) Note one of the Youtube comments from 3 years ago says FRANTIC FOUR. ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTE ! Do you think management stole the idea from him? How anyone can accept the farce of the LNOTE after watching this and seeing the chemistry and natural interplay between the original four members is beyond belief. There is simply oceans between the sound and talent of this band and the CQ band of whatever form. This is an original authentic band, everything else is a POOR SUBSTITUTE and should not be accepted.

Thanks Mikey, great vibe going there! Is it in your current setlist? Actually, we don't have a setlist
I don't like people knowing what's coming next, we ourselves hardly ever know what's coming next We have a master list on stage of all the songs we know, & also a few we half know, & we just see what happens there & then, depending on who shouts out for what song wise, by band members or audience. If someone shouts for something that we haven't done for a few years, it's just a case of turning to each of the band & saying "what do you think, are you up for that?". I love working like that, things are never the same twice. It's instant, spontaneous, anything can happen, including rough edges & occasional errors Keeps us on our toes, it's good. I don't like to be too slick, well oiled, precise, rehearsed to death, too choreographed etc. That's what I call a 'show' rather than a 'gig'.
So yes, we could easily put Umleitung into the proceedings there & then

What I like most about this song and some others of its time is that they are experimental and you get a sense of four guys who are totally free of inhibitions in terms of making mistakes and just want to carve out a groove and see where it takes them.
To me, that is the roots that made Quo and turned them into the success they were in the first place. It totally conflicts with the samey, over packaged and re-produced karaoke diet they have served out in the twilight of their career.
It is, indeed, like another band altogether.

I am different to many also because I really like the fiskadelic era - I find the amazing journey they took in such a short time between the late 60's to start of the 70's to be one of the most rewarding and massive buzzes I get from being a fan
Its just such a cool story - so anti establishment.

Yea, going from something like Antique Angelique to Spinning Wheel Blues was quite the change

Yea, going from something like Antique Angelique to Spinning Wheel Blues was quite the change I like the 60's songs in their own right, but also I think that the grounding they got in those earliest years was fundamental in giving them the impetus and determination to make the change work. Its all part of the story to me and is as strongly positive as the unwelcome number of negatives we see almost 50 yrs later.
Francis would now argue that songs like Umleitung, Is it Really Me/Gotta Go Home, Someone's Learning etc are the type of songs people stopped playing decades back in terms of extended jam sessions. Hence his "stuck in the 70's" jibe and sneer at Alan and also sections of long standing fans
This should not stop songs being composed along the lines of a bit of ad-libbing to get a finished product rather than neat little packages with a pre-determined mechanically composed and sterile few notes stuck in the middle of them.
Its no surprise maybe that some songs done by CQ probably don't work Live, because they have been constructed to make up a whole, like some car parts bolted together at an assembly plant.
They used to be a band where the Live act inspired the studio product. It always seemed unthinkable they would become one where manufactured songs form a mechanical format to structure gigs with. The "compensation" now is onstage entertainment at the expense of music played minus any of the baggage - as it used to be.

Thanks for that mikey I defintely agree on your thinking. Much prefer the atmosphere of a gig when it is interactive between band and audience. Perfect, over rehearsed playing may be slick but it can lack feeling.... I look forward to seeing you play again soon!

But... what about the flow? Bollocks to the flow!!
In fact the flow should be given a pair of concrete shoes & dropped into a deep lake.
That's what I think of the flow
