Peter Green was amazing ,but also a sad story ,so much lost talent.
Clapton has some great songs but to me has been totally overrated. Has had large parts of his career where he's been bored of the blues and had admitted it. He thanked Rory for bringing him back. The whole "God" thing is lost on me with him
Not been impressed with anything Page has done since mid 70's. For me more of a hard rock innovator than a straight bluesman
Snowy White gets my vote as best contempory English blues player , probably alongside joanne Shaw Taylor
Gary Moore merged traditional blues with hard rock and metal shredding. Has been very influential and deserves credit for it. Have downloaded his "blues for greeny" album ,should be good

Blues for Greeny is much more purist blues than GM's previous blues albums. No more shredding.
Though it's curious that he seemed unaware of the fact that Need Your Love So Bad actually has an ending!

I find the blues just not my thing. Which is odd as I love a lot of music that has developed from there.

To the point that in 1979 when he made his first album back he rang Snowy up and they collaborated on Peter’s ‘ In the Skies ‘album. Peter’s brother had recently help launch PVK records and Peter wanted to help his Brother out. He was still a shadow of his former Self but the actual Title Track ‘ In the Skies ‘ is beautiful with both him and Snowy weaving in and out of each other. Great vocal as well ! Peter had a fantastic singing voice which Clapton never had ! Anyway I’ll stop there as it’s going a bit off piste 😂

So then here's GM before he became a blues player Co-written with Ian Paice, who also played drums on this little ditty.

I watched a series on TV many years ago called Rock Family Trees - The British R&B Boom. Narrated by John Peel. Can now be found on Youtube in parts 1-6.
I remember John Mayall talking about how he had to have Clapton in his band after hearing the B side to a Yardbirds single. The b side being 'Got To Hurry' which was pretty much a Clapton blues instrumental. Then came the iconic Beano album as it is known. Mayall described Clapton as the only Brit guitarist at the time who had any understanding of the blues.
I did get to see Gary Moore and his band on stage in the mid 80s when he was less blues and more rock. He said at one time that he eventually gravitated towards the blues as more dignified in older age. Never saw Moore with Thin Lizzy unfortunately but did get to see Snowy White with Lizzy at Hammersmith. Though I gather Snowy didn't fit in too well with Lizzy. Not so much musically but personality wise.
