...of picking songs for a strong album of covers?
Quo's choices of songs for it's covers albums were questionable. Can we do a better job of picking decent, lesser known numbers?
Here's my suggestion, very Quoish and would suit an extended boogie work out.

The Icicle Works' 'Understanding Jane' would suit them well IMO.

The Icicle Works' 'Understanding Jane' would suit them well IMO. The Wildhearts have already done the definitive cover of that one

Sorry if I am misunderstood, but are we suggesting Quo should do another cover album?
I personally didn't want any, but we ended up with three. Actually three and a half if we include Rock til you drop.

Quo were never going to cover lesser known songs (except maybe Bob Seger's Get Out Of Denver, which was pretty obscure). I guess Don't Stop worked because of that. Worked commercially I mean. Of course, would we all like an album of, say, blues covers? Like The Blues Band or more recently The Stones? Probably. But, in my view, they'd need to scale back the production a bit. They didn't do a great job on Sweet Home Chicago, although it was still about the best track on the album. Rhino got that one right when he played it live. My own choices would certainly be different. But I suppose, like the band, we'd all choose songs that we like and think they could do justice. So, talking of Bram and covers.... Feast your ears

Actually three and a half if we include Rock til you drop. No, it's just for fun. Just the thought of could we pick better than Quo did? I think Quo didn't put much thought into which songs to pick because they had no enthusiasm for the projects and didn't really want to do them

Well no, because what is "better" is a matter of opinion. Nobody can ever be happy and final call comes down to the sods that have to record it.

Well yeah, although wr could apply that logic to the pointlessness of every topic! In the OP I shouldn't have said lesser known tracks, rather could we have picked tracks we think would have been a better fit for each of the 3 covers albums. For the famous album they probably chose quite well. I think DS they chose very badly. With riffs, I think David walkers concept of Quo playing your favourite rock songs by lesser bands was never going to be attractive, whatever the songs

The band was able to turn this:
Into this:
They can do it, and do it well, but those later covers were when the band were phoning it in, so the same as the 'regular' output of the time, it was this cheesy, weak sound that they somehow managed to fall into for years.
