Adore it tbh. Although, album should have been: Rolling Home Calling In your eyes Save me Army Lonely End of the line Invitation Red sky Don't give it up Overdose Far better than the previous two albums and better than the two that came afterwards Swap out "Don't Give It Up" for "Heartburn" and we've got a deal...

Praising it against those albums is like offering a glass of water to a man in the desert. Not a good album, if it wasn't Status Quo I wouldn't have listened to it a second time. 2/10. You had two goes PF? Fcuking hats off to you man.

No preference cos I don't like either one ... but yea, I see what you are saying... Musically I would prefer the ITAN album... still think it's mostly shite though..

Same as Victor...It's a long ride from Backwater Junction to this. The thing is, I always try to judge a song not only in the context of a band's history but also in the context of the current music of its time and on its own merits. And on its own merits, a song like "End of the Line" stands up well enough. My main problem with the album is that while the production works pretty well on the darker songs like EOTL, ITAN or Red Sky, it turns the poppier, happier songs into extreme examples of cheesiness. Comparing an album like this to Quo makes as much sense as comparing songs from the first two albums with what came after them. It's the same with Rush fans who don't recognize 'their' band anymore after Signals, even though the lineup hasn't changed.

Some good pop songs on this one. Better than B2B by a long chalk. I quite liked it, but I would never have bought into it if it hadn't been Quo. 5/10 across the board.

Rollin' Home 4/10 Calling 2/10 In Your Eyes 2/10 Save Me 2/10 In The Army Now 1/10 Dreamin' 0/10 End Of The Line 2/10 Invitation 0/10 Red Sky 5/10 Speechless 0/10 Overdose 4/10
Least I say about this album the better. Three tracks manage to slightly stand on tip-toes compared to the rest, the strongest being the single Red Sky followed by another single Rollin' Home plus the final track, Overdose. All the rest are truly forgettable or even worse.
There were far better B-sides released in this era, such as Lonely, Keep me Guessing & Don't Give It Up. Not great but better that the Dire, dismal dirge they collected and spewed out on this waste of vinyl.
Averages 2/10

Doesn't really matter much when both score under 5/10.

Davy - you oughta listen to all the post 82 catalogue at least once- I'd love to see what it did to you! I'm sure you could come up with some great posts thereafter. I've heard some of it. I don't mind some of it. ITAN is a fucking abomination. What don't ye mind?? Thirsty Work??
