Some folk just don't know how lucky we are! To still be able to go and see Quo live today is fantastic. Just enjoy it for what it is. I've got my tickets to see them in Elgin in August and can't wait.

Concerning JC, he actually left and the band carried on without him. The band still included AL and RP, so we can hardly blame FR alone. All were culpable. We all know AL and FR weren't getting on and again both parties responsible. AL moving to Australia obviously didn't help as he missed numerous video shoots to promote up coming singles. I have just enjoyed the band from the 70's to present day and whatever has gone off concerning the band is out of our control anyway.

I've got my tickets to see them in Elgin in August and can't wait. Absolutely this. We all have a choice to stop listening/going to gigs if we don’t enjoy them . I listen to all eras depending on my mood at the time along with lots of other varied stuff. Likewise i go to a lot of gigs ( not compared to some of course ) of varied styles of artists, but i’ve yet to see anyone i enjoy more than quo ( current or otherwise ) after 40+ years . I’ve only met Francis once backstage for 5 mins. Now none of them probably wanted to do meet & greets , but Francis was charming, funny & engaging in conversation ie not just handshake, thanks & goodbye so that’s how i judge him & anyone else i meet. now , if i rock up at his house on a wednesday morning & want to chat quo i suspect he’d tell me ( politely ) to f*** off & so he should ‘cos i would. He’ll say interviews what he thinks at that time so no big deal. I’m pretty sure all 4 of the FF could be tricky for the others to deal with at times & no wonder being in each others pockets. That Francis is still leading quo nowadays is partly down to record companies back in the day & us ( granted, not all ) wanting him to along with his determination to keep doing it as long as they can to his standards. Far from destroying the legacy he’s keeping it in the public eye. These guys are/were in a band, they didnt cure cancer or invent manned flight so let’s get over ourselves.

How many times have you bought Quo’s PYE era material? Yet here it is again presented in a nice new box set. Do I want it? Yes, I do but I got made redundant in February so that’s not going to happen. I have all the deluxe editions of this album or that and they would probably pull me in again with whatever format comes out next (but financially, not now). The prices of everything seems extortionate to me, books costing £50-£100 pounds, Mark Knopfler’s new album £50 on vinyl. No thanks I’m done with it all. I love the guys for the music they’ve given us, no-one hit the mark for me like the classic Quo did, but I’ll no longer be a cash cow. Well, I'm someone whose ideas kickstarted that set (though I was out of the loop afterwards), and the main point was to bring the material from the deluxe editions back to the market, specifically the Picturesque deluxe CD which has gone long out of print and costs insane prices on the secondary market. Yes, I know that material is available digitally and on other compilations, but most of the Pye era releases are hodgepodge compilations with not much sense behind them. Francis had nothing to do with that set except, I guess, greenlighting it.

Let's just say drugs has ruined loads of rock stars and celebrities lives, and drugs split Quo in two half's in terms of personality. It's just a miracle they kept going as long as they did. But in some ways it drained the goodness out of Quo, but it happened to so many bands.
Thin Lizzy were probably the best rock band in the 70's but Heroin sapped the energy out of Phil Lynott, which ended up ruining the band, and in the end it killed him.

I can't even begin to imagine what the lifestyle of a rock/pop star does to someone. Especially someone whose lived through the worst excesses of the 70's, 80's and 90's.
Loads of us would probably love to be up on stage in front of adoring fans frothing at the mouth but everything that goes with it you can keep. The glamorous life sure is a pain in the neck....?
Living on a bus (and not always luxurious like it became) with the same people day in, day out for years on end. Hell on earth that. Or at least it would be to me. Throw in drugs and alcohol and it's ultimately a recipe for disaster. A mini war brewing every day and no one holding back.
Francis and Alan have been at loggerheads on and off almost since the beginning and certainly as they grew into adulthood. Just different personalities. No doubt a clash of egos. Nothing strange about that whatsoever.
Often perceived as a fault by many, I suspect it's Francis's stubbornness and strength of character that has seen him - and the band - through.

How many other bands of the 70's still arouse passionate debate? I don't know, but Quo do! I think a lot of us (I'm guilty!) took the band way too seriously. From age 16-21 I was pretty much decked out in Quo stuff most days of the week. I look back and find it surprising I had friends Francis hasn't taken his own band remotely seriously in decades. I guess that combination was bound to create distance or worse with sections of the fanbase. To be fair, Francis has admitted that Rick and Alan were closer to the fans that he was. I'm not sure that was always the case - from everything I've ever seen on Quo boards, in 1976 he was the man, the most popular band member by far, every inch rock god

I'm not sure that was always the case - from everything I've ever seen on Quo boards, in 1976 he was the man, the most popular band member by far, every inch rock god Are you me from another dimension? I was so obsessed, I even wore the Never Too Late tour badge on my jacket when I got married in 1982. In my defence, I also had a carnation on the other lapel. No one can say I didn't make concessions But you make very good points. The fans - as serious fans tend to be - were way more serious about the band than perhaps even they were. I lived Quo in the 70's. I lived FOR Quo in the 70's! Which is plainly ridiculous. Thankfully, they released If You Can't Stand The Heat and the flawless bubble was burst. I think I maybe started to grow up a bit after that. A little bit. Can't rush these things But, like I say, very valid points. For anyone who didn't live through it, this band became a way of life for a few years. It sounds nuts but it's actually true. And, you're right; I do wonder if any other acts of some vintage arouse such passionate debate. I can imagine Genesis fans, old and new, having a right pop at each other after Peter Gabriel left. Or Deep Purple fans extolling the virtues of Mark II versus every other mark they've come up with. The Stones post Mick Taylor/Brian Jones* etc etc. * (delete depending on point of view)

Some of the debates around the new Mark Knopfler album also seem familiar. "He's selfish", "why won't he reform Dire Straits", "he talks negatively about his old work"...
