I always thought that it was colossally insensitive of Rossi and Bown to put forward a song called 'Dead In The Water' given the tragic death of Rick's daughter.
Anyway, it's not very good.

I always thought that it was colossally insensitive of Rossi and Bown to put forward a song called 'Dead In The Water' given the tragic death of Rick's daughter. Anyway, it's not very good. I never actually thought of it like that, I assumed the lyrics referred to failure or a venture failing to be successful. I quite like the song, better than some of the tracks on RTYD. The problem with RTYD for me is its an album of covers and re-recorded Quo songs, not enough originals on it. Okay thats a bit harsh, there are 10 original tracks, but I would have prefered that album to contain just the 10 original tracks, and include the other tracks on cd singles as b-sides. It seems as though Quo lost confidence after the relative failure of PR, so did some cover songs etc.

Rock Til You Drop was originally going to be covers but Francis decided he wasn’t having in and brought to the band loads of songs.
It ended a compromise between what David Walker wanted ( covers) and the original material the band wanted

Remember getting the 12" of the Can't Give You More single and the b-side with this track and Mysteries from the Ball got a lot more plays than the a-side.

Sums it up for me. Typical Rossi country influence, pretending to be Quo, crap. I absolutely can't stand his mediocre pop/country recordings. They are just all so terrible. I can't see any redeeming features whatsoever and wonder if he even believes he is good at this stuff?

Quite weak and definitely correct to resign it to being an extra track with a single. Those sort of staccato style verses are something Francis has done quite a lot (a la Doesn't Matter which this reminds me of in places). They don't do anything for me, personally, but I think the chorus here is quite catchy and it's when the Quo 'sound' kicks in as well. The sound of 1991 that is with the piano tinkering away behind the guitars. And rhyming "water" with "oughta" is a wee bit hackneyed I don't mind the song and certainly was OK with it at the time. But Mysteries From The Ball shone like a beacon like Quo B-sides occasionally do. I actually think this has Andy's fingerprints all over it and could easily have been a solo track. Credited to "Brown" on the CD single. Was someone trying to tell us something?

The lyrics are a bit throwaway but like the pace and energy of it.

Quite like this one. Poor verses but I like the rest of it.
I’d never considered the insensitivity of this before…
