Softer Ride is good but that's about it. Just no weight behind these renditions and Andy's keyboards are horrendous. IMO of course

I've always thought when they launched into Paper Plane it was the best opening to a gig since the Junior's Wailing days. And it was also the first time (I think) I can recall them doing Softer Ride.
So there was a sort of contradiction going on in me. Pretty woeful album, and they played a fair bit of it live, but I loved the gig for other reasons.
I do have to confess, though, I find Backwater a bit 'tinny' here but I also admit that I was completely unaware at the time. Well, you don't notice these things at a Quo gig. And certainly not nearly 30 years ago.
Ta for putting those up π

Yeah, terrific start to the gig. I must say, tho' that once the intro is done the energy from the guitars really drops when they start to sing - shame the vocals couldn't have sat on top of the guitars or at lest added up to the total energy of the guitars on their own. When they start with Caroline I always, always found the drums too quiet when they come in - then they raise. I can understand why but those drum hits could take it up another level if they had enough energy. Maybe they should soundcheck the start. Or, obvs, get me in as soundman (ot, at least, consultant!) I always liked it when they mixed up the first song. Both Junior's Wailing and Caroline are iconic, but this was great and so was Whatever You Want. And I'm a sucker for a dropped curtain start. Note: not just Quo - Kiss did great curtain starts

Note: not just Quo - Kiss did great curtain starts Leon totally gets, more than any other Quo drummer, that you really need to give it some ooomph as you come in on Caroline and by golly, he really does that. You are spot on- you canβt beat a good curtain drop !

Was there that night, but they played so bleddy fast back then, it wasn't a great era for the Band (under David Walkers Management) and the awful covers farce portrayed them as a Band going nowhere fast (even though 'Don't Stop' made No.2 in the charts)

My sister and I was at this gig at the Wembley Arena and when the band performed All Around My Hat, featuring Maggie Prior on vocals, my sister started dancing up and down the isle, as this was one her favourite records when she was 11 when performed by Steeleye Spam in '75. I disowned her as a sister from that moment
