I also notice that Do You Live In Fire? is listed as coming from the Spare Parts sessions but gives the date as 1981. Which is, of course, the year it was first released as opposed to it being recorded. But it's odd seeing it there on a compilation dealing with the band from 1966 to 1969. But, to be fair, it's not going to confuse anyone who is interested in this release because they'll already know. I've also wondered over the years the chronology of these post-68 tracks.
This track has the vibe of circa Make Me Stay A Bit Longer to it i reckon which might date it pre-Spare Parts album. Then again, that single had Auntie Nellie as the B-side which sounds to be much more like a Spare Parts leftover, so who knows?
Make Me Stay and Do You Live In Fire have more of the 1968 sound to them.

I'm glad you picked up on that! I remember reading about those and thinking these really deserve a wider release, and that's probably why they're on there. Occasionally, I do get things right As I said, it's been such a long time since I looked at those spreadsheets that I've forgotten a lot of my thought processes. (One thing I did remember was that I had also suggested the inclusion of the Vienna bootleg - yeah, it sounds bad, but it's the only known live recording of the band's pre-boogie set.) Well done for remembering these!
I also wonder what happened to this project which would ultimately yield some very early Spectres demos:
This CD set was nothing but a budget release from the get-go, simply because it was planned out that way. They also weren't even meant to be remastered because the budget wasn't big enough for that. A former employee at BMG was all for including unreleased material on these sets, as another one is to follow at some point, but it wasn't allowed. Another reason that no unreleased stuff is on these sets is because the guy who last had his hands on the master tapes and digitised them has everything sitting on DAT tapes and wasn't willing to share them if he wasn't in full control of this project. In-regards to the Joe Meek tapes, I don't know if they've been digitised yet.

Also worth pointing out that the Joe Meek article is dated to 2020, which is three years after I sent my first ideas to Steve. This project has been in the making for so long, I had almost completely forgotten about it. At the time, I was mostly just frustrated that you couldn't find the PMMFTSQ deluxe edition anymore for a decent price.

A nice collection to finally have in the same place finally. Much of it has been released in various forms on re releases and deluxe collections. I think as above says the first time Love in vain and Say you need me have been officially released? Not a bad price one for Quo completists only and only then if they consider the 60s period as definitive in any way. The early bbc sessions are really good and show a band learning their trade in the music business.

Is this the same Love in Vain covered by the Stones? The old Robert Johnson song?
Or is it a band composition?

There's also an Acetate that came from Porters office with 2 unreleased Spectres tracks on them. The state that I've been told it's in, it would cost hundreds just for the tracks to be carefully pulled from the disc.
It's not profitable really, so we won't ever hear them.

If this box sells good: are there plans for a follow-up with the 1970-71 material? If so, will there be any nice rarities included?

I found this old thread about the song when trying to refresh my memories: statusquo.boards.net/thread/13777/hello-love-1969So that's another 1966 recording, but never properly released. I also noticed that "Josรฉ" is still being called "Josie" - I made a point of writing it properly in all my spreadsheets

I do hope this is the prelude to a very extensive project for MKGS and DOTH.
