Maybe they'll play 'Slow Train' while Rossi doodles with his train set!!!! The sad truth is they won't be playing Slow Train, and there won't be any models worth mentioning. Bring on "Angry" by the Stones.

'Little Trains & Big Names' is the sequel to previous Hornby related programmes. First off, we had 'James May's Big Trouble in Model Britain' followed by the series 'Hornby; A Model World'. The James May two-part programme put the spotlight on Hornby and their downturn in fortunes and how close they had been to going out of business. This mini-series also featured rival companies such as 'Rails of Sheffield'. Then 'Hornby; A Model World' followed various Hornby designers and their efforts to put Hornby back on the map.
When Francis appeared on that Celeb Antiques Road trip programme with Linda Nolan, he was talking about nostalgia (the contradiction that he seems to be) and model railways. After this, it came as no surprise to me that he will be making an appearance this Thursday on 'Little Trains..'
Rod Stewart hasn't made an appearance but he was name checked by Jools Holland as he gave Jools some good advice about model railway layouts.
Model railways aren't my hobby but they were my brother's (RIP) and he built a huge pull-down railway layout in our shared bedroom when we were young teenagers. Mostly Hornby-based trains and track. It really was something else. Have been watching these programmes from a nostalgic perspective I suppose but also following Hornby's return to the main stage with Hornby veteran and Director Simon Kohler and how Hornby are moving forward and embracing new technology.

On a serious note, my layout is called 'Backwater Road', dedicated to the 'Great' Status Quo So you might have the Hornby when this is on.

That's the second rocker getting on the model trains. Rod Stewart is another, he visited a model train shop & bought some stuff in Oz while touring here not long ago. What the hell is going on?

From what I gather, trainspotting was considered 'cool' in the 50s especially. If you happened to be a young male and not into trainspotting then you were treated with a great deal of suspicion. Back then, trainspotting had been every bit as important and fashionable to young boys and men as football later became for younger peeps since the World Cup in 1966, with a few exceptions of course.
ps...Little Trains etc is on the 'More 4' channel

I recorded this and have now watched it. Thought it was quite interesting to be honest, regardless of whether Francis was used or not, can see why show would appeal to anyone with an interest in trains, model making and also history, as it tells a brief bits & pieces story of certain aspects of railways of the past. Sadly, Slow Train, Railroad, Gravy Train or even Velvet Train did not feature!!!
