When I went in the 70s I used to think "can't they do about 10 minutes and then some other stuff they never do." (...) Absolutely. I think I was too young to really appreciate the overlong song on stage at the time. But I've always loved every minute of it on record or video. The version they did on the second reunion tour was amazing. I can't get enough of it. 4500 Times live at the NEC '82 is indeed one of the best, but I think the way they played it at Milton Keynes in '84 outdoes them all.

I was at the Charlie gig and I always remember my mate going to the bar for a couple of pint's,as he hated 4500 Times!!! while I just let the wall of sound wash over me for 22 minutes. Priceless. i was there got clobbered by a load of chairs one hell of a gig ! I was sitting in a car on the Welsh border with a cup of tea. One hell of a gig!

Watched this a couple of times recently. I adore all the detail, rhythm changes, jigs etc... And they never miss a beat. So tight. Terrific, magic, marvellous.

Pete Kircher is superb on this Quo never sounded so heavy Cheers I think you are confused! Pete Kircher was nothing more than a session drummer for a succession of would be (poppy)pop bands one of which supported Quo on the BFY tour. You can listen to the limited drumming on the Honeybus one hit wonder "cant let Maggie go" The last we heard of Kircher he had his poppy head back on collaborating with Rossi and Frost for the solo album flying Debris in 1985 which was never released. TF To join Quo he had to learn how to drum before taking the masters stool in which had previously been the greatest (and heaviest) R&R band in the land.

"To Join Quo he had to learn how to drum"... so every band prior to Quo, he couldn't play drums? Being a session musician means to be talented at the instrument you play, not be substandard. I could repeat this all day long but Pete was a fantastic drummer for Quo! Absolutely solid playing without a doubt from that man. If you don't like him fair enough, but don't comment on a persons instrument ability if you've never touched the thing yourself and play it to a great standard. And like you said, he was a session musician... to be a session musician you have to be versatile with different playing styles or you will not get anywhere in that business. Here's a great clip to show his "limited" drumming Have to say I love the feedback from Ricks guitar during the end part when Rossi's playing the Gotta Go Home riff

Yes Kircher was a fantastic drummer for Quo I agree but it was not a natural style for him and to say "quo were never heavier" is totally absurd.

I was at the NEC ' Charlie' gig. It was a memorable event. The press built it up for weeks and the atmosphere was incredible. I can also spot myself down the front during the awesome 4500x performance. This really was a special band!
