Typically I focus my discontent on all the poor Quo music output since 1982 on Mr. Rossi - and well deserved for the most part. However, its fair to say Mr. Parfitt is guilty of over indulging the mediocre, chugga chugga simple 50's rock refrains over and over and over again, also since 1982. Because they still often have a driving rhythm guitar base it is easier to just let them pass for filler tracks but the truth is tracks like Queenie are a reminder of what went wrong with Quo and therefore its a big thumbs down from me

Meanwhile, inside Francis's head, 1994...
"Oh bugger, there's next to nothing on here at all representative of the stuff that made us. Must knock off an uninspired 'trying too hard' brainless rocker to appease our perceived 'hardcore' fanbase.
"'Ere, Rick, you haven't written anything. Sing this, there's a good boy."

The token Rick track. Only it isn't a Rick track. Maybe even the token Chuck track.
Bang average. The thing is, this isn't even the best track on a poor album despite it trying so hard to be something the rest of the album is not.
I believe they played this one live during the early part of the tour. Never caught that myself. Maybe it had more 'oomph' in a live setting. But they dropped it, which may speak volumes. And kept Restless in there, which DOES speak volumes.
Quo can do Chuck and do him brilliantly. Goodbye Baby being a case in point. This is playing at it.
4/10 unfortunately.

Yes, Francis writing a Rick style song because Rick hadnt written any. Can't knock him for that!
Really liked it at first as it sounded like SQ. A skipper on any other album, a bit like I don't remember anymore, the weak link on HT

Delving into these Quo Lite tracks I do find every now and again I come across a gem. This I am afraid isnt one of those tracks.

I can confirm that Queenie was played on the German leg of the the TW tour, at least the gig I saw in Hannover. By Blackpool it had gone. Not a good song, not a good album, not a good time to be a Quo fan. I can usually make an EP of even the worst of Quo's albums, with the exception of Back To Back. This would not make the EP that Thirsty Work should have been.

It would be fine without the treatment and production it was given - ie. drums far too loud and guitars too low, and far too clean and separated a sound. Think of the sound of "Carol", and it would suit that fine, a looser groove. This just sounds too tight and nicey-nice. Where's the swagger, the edge? I know, it had gone at this point.

I think this is why they pulled it after only a few outings! Sounds nearly as fast as Get out of Denver!!!

I always thought that the song was Rick's. I think Quoincidence said there is a Francis vocal session somewhere. I can't image a Francis version, even knowing that Queenie is Francis' wife. Am I wrong? One of the few songs from the album that I can say "Yes, this is Quo".
