Amazing! It's like 2 different versions in many places! [I'm assuming it was filmed a few times/different 'takes'?]
God I enjoyed that to perfection, Luke! Hafta say - you do some amazing [woo, there it is again!] work on these things! G [PS - jeez, weren't they an awesome band back then?]

It will have been filmed between 7th June - 15th July 1976. Depends whether it was captured on tape or film, as tape is quicker / easier to cut together than film. Keef MacMillian (producer of the Milton Keynes show) preferred to shoot on video tape for that reason. I'm assuming it was shot on tape, so it could have been done much later on, which would explain the different edit used on the 15th July ep. of Top Of The Pops. The TOTPs edit was also used on Hello Quo! And thank you! I only noticed as I decided to do a side-by-side to see which one had better clarity. This might be the only case of a different edit being used on TOTPs. Without having any specific dates for promo videos, you have to go off; Ricks hair, what stage clothes they are wearing and when they were free in the year. Rain will have been filmed in January 1976, before they started the Blue For You tour. (Rick still sporting his denim shirt) Mystery Song, June - July 1976 (Rick now wearing that floral top, also seen on the Jazz-Bilzen 8mm footage) Wild Side Of Life, October - November 1976 (Inbetween the Glasgow Apollo and Tokyo Quo shows. Ricks hair being the indicator, as it wasn't that short at the Apollo shows)

The alternate promo was also used on the VHS tape given to the band, by Phonogram, to commemorate the release of 12 Gold Bars.

I think that the part from the end of the guitar solo until the start of the final verse was the peak of "my" Status Quo's recording output. They equaled this more than once on previous recordings but never got within touching distance after, even though they still managed to produce some great flashes and bursts later. The fire had been set on a lower temperature.

I still reckon the awesome Mystery Song should’ve been pushed hard by their record company to get them into the American charts. They were at their peak after the run of No.1 albums through Europe, plus the success they had built in Australia and Japan.. A shame as this song, I believe, would’ve got them over the line in the US and onto where they were heading.

Quoincidence is there a way to use the album version of Mystery Song ( ie the beginning and end ) with a live version of Mystery Song all dressed up as if they had opened up live with it ?
