I just found Andy's solo album Gone To My Head from '72 on YouTube a couple of days ago. This is the first time I've heard it and I'm totally in love with it. It's not on any streaming service, in fact, none of his albums are except for his 2011 effort which is definitely not the same. Does anyone know anything about his albums from the 70s? Why aren't they on any streaming service? Can I find any of it online at all? Buy a CD (if any of those are around which I doubt because if there are they should be streaming as well) is out of question since I don't own a CD-player. This is a hidden treasure for sure! www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9Qbq6QxerOOZIjnlnGNiFYXN6iiZZaKc

Always wondered if that is where Floyd got the hammers from on The Wall.

This album has recently (well, 2016) had its first-ever CD release. It was an official release - but only in South Korea and Japan!

I found the original version of the title track and they really have done an amazing job with the remaster.

None of Andy's earlier solo albums have ever been released on CD apart from that Far East one that jason mentioned. Andy was asked once in an interview about re-releasing them all and he simply said that no one would really be interested. I recently managed to get hold of a couple of old vinyl albums ( Sweet William and Come Back Romance, All Is Forgiven) but it's taken me, literally, decades to track them down. My sister bought Good Advice when it first came out but when I asked her about it, she said she'd forgotten all about it and has no idea where it is It would great to get them all officially re-released on some format or other but Andy doesn't seem keen. Pity. I'll have a listen to Gone To My Head though. Ta for the link.

I like this stand-alone single from a couple of years later a lot, a bit Quo-ish. I hope some day his back catalogue will get released, but it doesn't sound too likely!

Some of these songs sounds like Beach Boys 70s output, like Open Your Eyes could easily be something they'd release back then with Carl on lead. It's a great album, and it makes me wonder about the other albums. Why did they re-issue this one, and not digital? Why no other albums?

Never been a fan of any of Andy's solo material (or his stuff in Quo either) but that is interesting. Has almost a David Bowie and the Spiders from Mars feeling. The early to mid 1970's glam rock influence is clear in the sound.

Had never heard this album before (Gone To My Head), only 'Come Back Romance, All Is Forgiven' which I bought years ago and instantly put away after one listen.
This album is in contrast interesting.
I can see why he has had an association with Pink Floyd. There are parts very Pink Floydish and even like Elton John, Rufus Wainwright and james Taylor etc.,. There is also a sound that I associate with Joe Boyd's production work with Nick Drake which I adore (Albums 'Five Leaves left' and 'Bryter Later'.) Perhaps this is the problem it all sounds like a mis-mash of other artists without his own identity, but nevertheless quite good.
I could listen to this again!

There are very few Andy Bown solo tracks i like either, except for some from his most recent album.
This is quite good though:
and this, the theme tune from the TV series "Ace Of Wands":

Again both very interesting. I will have to review my opinions on Andy. Always thought he was a great all round musician but just did not like his musical creations, both in and outside Quo, but I have found these interesting. In reality he was a strange choice for Quo and very different to them. He was/is on a completely different musical spectrum than Quo, worlds apart, and a complete mis-match really. I read and watched a few interviews yesterday with him and reading between the lines it would strongly appear Quo were not really his thing. It would appear that essentially he was going no where as a solo artist so he played with Quo even if this was not his hearts desire, although he never ridicules them, he is probably too polite and correct to do this. This must have eaten away at his creative soul for many years. He ended up however with a lengthy musical career and wealthy, which he clearly appreciates, and probably made the difficult pill of being in Quo easy to swallow. Also interesting to see who he has worked with including Jerry Lee Lewis, Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney, although I have been unable to find out what he worked on with Paul McCartney. He also highlights one of those special moments in his life as being where he was on a flight for 15 hours with, and chatting to, Michael Jackson. Again the circumstances / context of this is not outlined (may be he was secretly writing and playing for Wacko Jacko on his breaks from Quo!).

Nick Drake which I adore (Albums 'Five Leaves left' and 'Bryter Later'.) Great shout. An excellent songsmith and a hugely underrated guitar player. An artist strangely ignored for decades after his passing then suddenly he's gained a sort of cult following, which has resulted in some previously unreleased material coming out. And a gorgeous sister back in the day when she was in UFO Seriously, though, never thought I'd see Nick Drake's name mentioned on here in passing. Nice one. Sorry, hijacked the topic a bit there. I shall move on

It seems that he wrote all the Wongs on this album as well, and then replaced all the vocals from the singers to his own lmao. I really like some of these songs as well.

Also, can someone here point me in the direction to bands and artists similar to songs like Gone To My Head (song), Open Your Eyes and those kind of tracks on the album?
