Personally think he has been told Aquostic was not going to work in touring sense or making more records. So he has made a rock album, as audiences were going down to where they were struggling to sell out City Halls. A new ‘rock’ album was what might get people to go again. Wallet ruling heart to me. However only he knows and Im not sure he would tell us the truth anyway. He says he’s enjoyed the ‘process’ of writing. So for those who have enjoyed it. I think you will get more. You mention we thought it was over at the end of the 90s. What did he do to save the band. He went back to rock. History repeating itself. Mate would you only be happy if he pulled the plug? On the other hand what right do you have to virtually tell another person to end their career? What do you want? What do I want ? As with Status Quo. I don't want anything to be fair. They make people happy. That's a good thing. I want Francis to stop ? Not at all. Do I think they are recording a good album ? Its alright. My Status Quo ended a long time ago. They didn't ask me if that was ok. I don't buy their product and haven't for years. I find it odd when people compare this album to pre1985. That's hard to do when most of those involved then are no longer involved.

I actually understand your position with Quo. I haven’t bought anything since the RAOTW John EDen re do. Haven’t bought Aquostics, Ricks album, Francis’s book, Quo’s gigs here a couple of years ago too far away ... but through some positive feedback here ordered this new album... I’m still open to Quo.

Backbone is not a rock album for me there is one real rock song or one real quo song and that is Cut Me Some Slack.
The rest is an album which is made to be a rock album but from somebody who has lost his heart for rock and boogierock since the end of the 70‘s.

Ehm, if Get Out of My Head is not a rock song then I don't know what is! I've just watched parts of the Wacken and LNOTE DVDs again. Francis playing solos where there originally weren't any. He might have lost the passion in certain periods, but at the moment it's definitely back. You can also sense this when you read the part of his book where he talks about the new album. He was clearly excited about it and couldn't wait to share it with the people (or why else would they have played two new songs before the album was even announced?). I think fans like me are annoyed/frustrated with fans like you because it's rarely about opinions, "I don't like this", but about painting with overly broad brushes. Which is a bit amusing given the line in Backbone "different strokes for different folks, that's my point of view". Before anybody accuses me of trying to destroying freedom of speech: I think it's totally OK to not like the album (or anything Quo in general, let's not forget that), but... the less effort you put into a post, the less people are going to like it, especially if it's a throwaway negative remark like some have written, and even more so if it contains an implicit or explicit belittling of people who are of a different opinion (and yes, this works the other way round too). Constructive criticism is nothing to sneeze at, I think, even if the band won't be able to read it, because it stays on the plane of decent conversation. And this is not specifically aimed at anyone (although I used a quote as a starting point) but a general comment on discussion politics as I see it. That's all

Got the deluxe CD today as I've barely listened to Face The Music, and it's not likely to appear on streaming services. Nice booklet with lyrics. Also wanted to support the band, like it or not this is an album they've made for us. Apologies unspokenwords and musiktruhe for coming across as not wanting negative comments. 100% not my intention, wouldn't like to think there's fans reading who don't feel comfortable to post. Compared to the old official SQMB, it's generally very civililsed here Up until a year or so ago, fans tended to come on here and tell us we were so negative about Quo they'd never post here. More recently we've had some of the other. I agree that all this is enevitable from time to time given the bands history. Back on topic, does anybody like Crazy Crazy? Ive only managed a few seconds of it but will put myself through the full song later when I play the CD. Wish me luck

Listened to the album several times again and I am enjoying it big time and that's been years ! I like the tracks like Cut me some slack and Get out of my head but also like the tracks with surprises like Waiting for a woman and Backing Off a lot. And while others seem to have problems with I see you're in some trouble I really enjoy that track and it keeps going hrough my head ! Running out of time is another song that has grown quite a bit on me. Backbone is a song that I think could have been better with more varying in the chords and a decent solo, something that I find missing on I see you're in some trouble too, wish that song would have had a good solo in it ! The only track I can't enjoy is Crazy Crazy, for me that belongs on a Francis solo album and even then, I just think it's irritating what he does with his voice at certain points in the song and it puts me off. Most favorite track is Face the music for me. This album will be played quite a bit in the future and won't start boring me at all

I'm gradually getting to hear more songs as they get YouTubed, and I tend to the opinion that this may indeed be quite a good album, if lacking in truly outstanding individual tracks. A good album is a good album. If it had the equivalent of Roll Over or Is There a Better Way on it, it would be an even gooder album.
Still working on it, but must go and cook something now.
Actually, leaving off listening half way through "Crazy Crazy" probably wasn't ideal, but it beats listening to the end ...

Having listened to BB at least 10-15 times this last two weeks I’d say it’s their most consistently Good album in many many years. Arguably better than heavy traffic and RTYD. I think that alone is a miracle at 70 years old
Very thankful we got a new quo album of this quality, one last time.

I doubt very much this will be a swansong after the critical and public reception it's had. Even some old hardcore admitting they've enjoyed it. It's a very long time before the next tour, more than enough to record an album...

Well, it's no.1 in the physical charts It was at no.2 a few days ago in the overall charts (Down now to no.23)
Me personally, I admit that I do take great offence to how certain individuals were treated and how certain egos and delusional aspirations knocked what once was a special, meaningful thing, into pieces.
But,
Great to see original, written material, from respected and renowned musicians, reach good critical and commercial success.
And do you know what makes it more impressive? No stupid, pathetic, worthless, cheesy PR stunts...Maybe they copped on to the fact it doesn't work?

Am I allowed to say that I enjoy Crazy, Crazy a bit more than the other two Rossi/Bown tracks that made the album? All three are not really great in my book though. No "Frozen Hero" this time, I suppose

I've never been a great fan of Rhino in SQ, but he seems to know what Quo songs need: CMSS and LL are among the best on this album. Well done, Rhino!
(But Rhino's quote in the booklet: "I love my family, Status Quo and Brenford Football Club. You Reds!" Really? That's your message for us? Bloody hell.)

No "Frozen Hero" this time, I suppose Of course you are. Everyone hears different things and have different references. I'm sure even this track has some, to me, hidden qualities. To me it's a awful track but I can accept that others may like it.
