I dont think i will listen. Defs wouldnt take a copy if offered it free. No Rick. No Quo. Simple. And love how they have to talk about Rick to generate interest..understandable as they need to but disgraceful. I agree 100% that it's not Quo. Quo hasn't existed for nearly four decades. And it won't be Quo Lite, either (Rick's term). It will be Francis Rossi's Quo. Knowing that going in I will listen and, if I like it, I'll buy it. But my eyes will be wide open when and if I do.

If they don't mention Rick, it’s disrespectful. If they do mention Rick it’s disrespectful. I think it’s going to be great. I mean, how many albums was Rick actually on?

Are you really being serious asking that question?

I saw a band last night, they weren't Status Quo but they played the Quo I like. Even had one former member on drums. I' ll give Backbone a listen out of interest , then decide if I like it or not regardless of what name is on the front cover. Dont mind the two songs i have heard so far.

I like Victor's OP and am in line with the majority above. Even if I felt as resentful towards Rossi for continuing to use the SQ name without Rick, as some clearly do, I wouldn't be able to resist the temptation - furthermore, I can pretty much guess how it's going to sound to my ears: a few tracks which I consider woeful; the majority will be somewhat 'samey' latter-day-Quo; but there will be a couple of stand out tracks that I will play loud in the car. I don't see a sensible reason to miss out on those.
PS I like the cover's 'hint of rock' style, and the optimist in me sees some promise in that (unlike 4th Chord's comic cover), so maybe I will get 3 'drive fast tracks' ("sorry officer, but I couldn't help myself....just listen to this...").
PPS Amongst the 'bland' majority of tracks, I have a hunch that there will be one or more that will sound more Rhino's Revenge than Quo-Lite, which are actually pretty decent rock songs.

How many 70 yr olds are writing , releasing and touring new music that is being discussed and debated passionately by fans old and new?
I can only think of one, there can't be many.

I'm curious to hear whether or not there is much difference in the sound of the guitar work compared to the last 10 or so albums.
I can't really think of much that Rick had contributed guitar-wise in the age-old Parfitt style since maybe RTYD at the latest. That seemed to be his last real burst of inspiration.
A lot of the stuff since has been relatively bland with regards the guitar parts, and if Backbone is more of that, then i guess it will take the edge off not having Rick contributing any more.
Also curious to hear if Richie sings. And if it still sounds like Quo. I guess that's it really, wondering whether it will still sound like Quo.
I also don't doubt there will be at least one song on there that sounds like "The Winner".

piledriver62 I think the point he's making is that heritage bands tend to have one or two original(ish) members that Joe Public think "are" the band, the other members they probably don't know the names of or what they play. Quo are still Quo just as much as Whitesnake, Purple, Sabbath, Rainbow, Slade, ELO and numerous other bands are in the eyes of the public. Some bands do of course exist long after any original members are long gone, many from the Motown stable especially. For me if the "face" of the band is there then they have every right to use the band name if they wish to.

The band had four faces, three singers and 3 and with Bob 4 songwriters.
ELO had one singer who had written all the songs,
Whitesnake are sounding like Whitesnake since 1987.
Who is the face of Black Sabbath..... sometimes in the 80´s was Tony I. the only original member.

Exactly! Had. Then three, then for a long time two and then sadly just one. But for your average Jack Francis has always been the face of Quo, Rick was just "the blonde one". As for the other bands they're all in the same situation, for most people they think Ozzy "is" Sabbath, because they don't know of his long absences. They think Cov is Whitesnake because they don't know the difference between Moody/Marsden blues rock era and the MTV re-invention. For Purple it's Ian singing Smoke on the Water and so on.

Like I said bands galore have changed personnel and kept the name. I was answering to a post that said they haven't been Quo for nearly 40 years and i call bullsh1t.

The Beatles change drummers ? 😂😂😂 When they were huge ? Or an early line up. You may have missed the thousands of people who asked for their money back when Brian was pushed out of AC/DC. Yes bands change line ups and many change. For Status Quo they became a shadow of themselves. Are they Status Quo of course. Are they the band that had regular hits or recorded great albums. Well no.
