Right. Dug this album oot of mothballs and gave it play. First time I've heard it in at least 30 years. Again and Again - Great song, great to play, great solo. Love it. I'm Giving up my Worrying - shite. Mind boggling shite. Gonna Teach you to Love Me - bland pish. I've heard worse though. Someone Show me Home - forgettable pish. Long Legged Linda - sounds like it was written by a 14 year old after his first visit to a pub. Shite. Oh! What a Night - loved it. I'd forgotten about this one. So good, it'll be going into our set as soon as. Accident Prone - Feckin brilliant. Absolutely feckin brilliant. I detested this song in 1978, but now? Love it. Stones - ball-bouncingly bad. A kick in the stones for anyone who likes this pish. Let Me Fly - a silly wee song, but not too bad. I know a trumpet player, so it might be played live at some point. Like a Good Girl - drivel. A sign of the utter shite that was about to pour out of Rossi. I'm surprised Bob Young had anything to do with this pile of bollocks. All in all, pish. Probably be another 30 years til I listen to it again. Amazing to think that 4 years earlier they released the mighty QUO album. What happened? None of these tracks would've gotta look in on that album.

First listen in over 30 years. Turns out I like it a lot less than I thought Quo’s most ambitious album? Wouldn’t mind guessing this was the most expensive to make. Anyone know ? Again and Again is fab. Oh what a night is brilliant , yet wouldn’t fit on any other album. Nothing else is brilliant. Worryin’ grabs me as I like those opening bars and I liked that it was different. I’ve since had more than enough different from Quo. Skipped after one minute Teach ya - worth waiting just for the glorious mid section. It’s too short but it’s wonderful. Then I skipped. Even the bad songs on this album have good bits Show me home - show me the skip button. Linda - used to love it. Now? Ok I suppose . The first Quo by numbers recording ? Thought I kinda liked accident prone , but as soon as the horrible drums started I skipped. Some good guitar interplay but it’s flawed. Good song in there somewhere Enjoyed Stones. The guitars sound crisper and more upfront than I remember. Very flawed song, never really known what I thought. Needs a killer chorus but doesn’t have one. Francis lead guitar sounds great. Let me fly. Dull , dull start. Production leans towards horns and piano. Nice groove to the song as it builds. A lot better nearer the end than the beginning. Good song but could have been better. Good girl - here’s another I thought was great when I was 14. It isn’t. As with run to mummy, Francis can perhaps get away with crossing the line of decency when the band rock hard behind him. Here it works on the verses but not the chorus. Flawed. Overall there’s only two essential songs. The weakest Quo album of the classic line up. But it’s not the classic line up. Andy was a member and songwriter on some of the songs. The magic four line up was gone.

I always think of this album as an experiment which was only partly successful. An open love letter to an American audience that was largely uninterested in them. It has brass and backing vocals. It’s central weakness is the production makes for a sameness to a lot of the songs. As Rick would say, it’s of it’s time.
Strangely I like a lot of the songs. But love none. It’s all a bit lightweight and not much in greatness. I do however prefer it marginally over Rocking.
If I was to give it a score I would give it a solid 5 out ten.
I play it rarely. Although that is the case with so much of the Quo catalogue these days.

I think it's an average album. No tracks are strong enough to stand on their own. The horns and the choir is obviously a big mistake. I'm not very keen on Rossi's guitar tone on some of the tracks. Maybe they where seeking something new but it sounds just thin and synthetic. At the time I think they were changing their valve amps to a solid state version of the Vox Ac30 when playing live (unbelievable). Don't know what they used in the studio but it sounds more like a thin solid state-sound than a fat valve-sound to me.
The best songs is on the B-side.
Again and Again - Gets a little bit boring. Except from the solo part it's the same chord progression all the way + it's got one of the most nagging refrains they ever written. 5/10
I'm Giving up my Worrying - Not my favorite. Lacks flow and it's to much start and stop. Horrible guitar tone. 4/10
Gonna Teach you to Love Me - It's just a long intro, feels like it never getting started. Again the solo part is the best part. 4/10
Someone Show me Home - The verses reminds me of Brahms lullaby which makes it kind of silly. I like the other parts, even the organ parts which is normally not very Quo to me. 5/10 (the verses brings it down)
Long Legged Linda - Except from the female choir and the horns I have to admit that I like this one. It's not a Quo classic to me but still enjoyable. 7/10
Oh! What a Night - This sounds like Quo. Away with the choir and it's probably even better. 8/10
Accident Prone - Don't understand why this is so praised. To much disco feel and it gets really nagging after a while. Don't like Rossi's guitar tone on this one. 5/10
Stones - Maybe not the best song written by AL but it works as an album track. It adds something to the album that for example GTYTLM doesn't. 6/10
Let Me Fly - Maybe the best song on the album. It's got a great laid-back grove and I don't think it's Quo by numbers. 8/10
Like a Good Girl - This sounds a lot like Quo and it's a good closer. 7/10

Never understood why though, I like that song a lot

And I have to concede the intro is good. Maybe if it had had different lyrics, I might have liked it better. Yep. The lyrics are horseshit. I like the line about the wireless.

Turds cannot be polished unfortunately.
(A former submariner told me this.) They can if you put several layers of varnish on them. Then you end up with a hard, shiny turd. I think this is what happened to this album.
I heard it when I was a new fan, remembering that Blue for You (which I was iffy about) and 1982 were my "starter" albums, I wasn't fixated on the classic Quo sound, but I still thought this was a mess.
However I loved Accident Prone, which was already in my singles collection.
If they were going to "update" they should have gone the whole way and gone eletro-dance-pop. I gather there's a DJ out there who makes millions from every gig, and throws cake at the audience - I was born too early

If there is one thing I could do , it would be to put Bob's harmonica on Oh What a Night instead of Andy's keys and it would be much better imo. Found I still liked Accident Prone and surprised myself with Again & Again. Never been keen on it live but unusually for Quo sounds better on the studio album. Those three were head and shoulders above the rest for me. Some tosh on it though. First time played in full for over 30 years. Will give it another go just to see if any growers.

After the biggest disappointment so far in life (RAOTW) this new album came only a year later and made things even worse….
Oh What a night is okey, the rest is utter utter shite.

Incorrect! The appallingly bad 'Quo by numbers' Again & Again is shite too. Only in my opinon obviously! I get it that other people like different songs. Even LLL A&A is a great song. Great to play live and it has a quality solo. The rhythm underneath the solo is almost perfect Quo. We rarely agree, but here we do. Although the chords aren't adventurous, I like that the drum rhythm in the verses is a bit out of the ordinary for Quo. As for the rest of the album, I like several other tracks, but it's probably the first patchy album the band made since their early years. It's saved (to me) by the fact that the band is still playing with conviction and mostly still sounds like a unit (which can't seriously be said about 1982 or BTB...). The production is a bit OTT, but they were trying to break into the American market after all.

My first quo album, bought when I was 10 years old. I did not have any comparisons yet, and I loved it! I have warm memories of this album, and I think that's why it is still a great album: youth sentiment! And without shame, the whole album is part of my youth, and the whole album is absolutely awesome.

An appalling album. "I'm Giving up my Worrying" is the second worst song they've ever done. "Stones" is the third. After the horseshit that was RAOTFW, (which contains the worst song they ever did), this was the album that finished Quo for me for quite some time. Utter mince. Only "Again & Again" saves it from being 100% shite. Incorrect! The appallingly bad 'Quo by numbers' Again & Again is shite too. Only in my opinon obviously! I get it that other people like different songs. Even LLL One of my favorite albums. People wanted Quo to try new things, they did, and they pulled it off. I have no idea why you people don't like it, other than a holdover of having heard it in 1978. 40 years later I loved it. And yes, Again and Again included.
