Solid Gold, lean machine and possibly reason for goodbye are I think the only ones that sounds like classic Quo. There's a few more on HT that come close, eg Another day, had lots of balls in places, reckon the old line up would have done a better job with it. Same I ain't ready, blues n Rythem, I ain't waisting my time, lucinda, bad news The closest "modern Quo" got to the down tempo Piledriver stuff is you let me down This is what I'm talking about - you've grasped the spirit of what I mean perfectly MrWaistcoat 👍

... The inclusion of Alan seems an over-simplistic approach but I get the association. I think not only material but production techniques and arrangement play a big part. I personally like all of the albums from Heavy Traffic onwards. Whether any of them reflect classic Quo from the past, I'm not so sure. ...well to [probably mis-] quote Billy Connolly, "excuse me for f*~%in' breathin' ". I guess I simply refer to Alan as a 'baseline' to draw a distinction between Alan-era sounding Quo and the Quo from Speedy Rich and Rhino etc etc.
For me Quo's sound changed completely and noticably from ITAN onwards and I bloody well didn't/don't like it very much at all! Again, to me, a whole bunch of post-AL Quo doesn't sound like the Quo that I loved.
But to [try to] be fair I reckoned there (even statistically!) must (?) be some songs on post-AL albums that would have sounded and felt 'not out of place' if played by FF-era sounding Quo.
To me FF-era Quo sounds like them from MKGS right up to B2B - and that includes for all the changes and shifts in production techniques, equipment, blah blah blah, in essence they SOUND [and even feel] like Quo probably because of the personnel.
It's not complex or complicated.
Course all this is just my view - that's why I started the thread! - 'cos I wanted to find out what those songs might be from those folks on here who don't find post-AL era to be 'objectionable' as a whole; then compile them together as a sort of 'Best of post-AL-era Quo' that I could stand to listen to instead of trawling thru' albums to find some decent songs amongst the not-decent and pop/lite sounding songs.

Thanks for all these so far folks - gotta say tho', I'm not so sure I can 'hear' FF-era Quo in all these 🤔 (I'm esp. looking at you, 'Who gets the Love' !?)
Keep 'em coming tho' and we'll see how that compilation comes out in the end !!
[Btw, nothing yet from QPQ?? bit surprised there!]

... Many(?) of us on here are more fans of the AL-era Quo than post-AL, I think that's possibly fair to say?
So I've been wondering lately, for us AL-era fans, what would be the best/most-Classic-era sounding songs recorded by the band after AL left/was pushed out. [Hope this is making sense🤪]
I've heard almost everything up to QPQ - but nothing since - and my feeling is that there might/must be some good stuff in there, just that the dross [I'm looking at you 'ITAN' and 'Ain't C'!!] is very off-putting so I can't be arsed trying to find it! [There, I said it!]
So, what songs would be on a 'Post-Alan Quo for Fans of Classic-era Quo' compilation album.
To start with, right now I can only think of one song that really registered with me as 'fitting' that's 'Dust to Gold' from QPQ. 👍

Yep - he's something of a 'truth teller' alright. His Auto-Biog [didn't realise there were two tho'?] is a great read. 👍

Was always raging that they didn't come over here on that tour. I'd love to have seen JC one last time [pre-ReUnions, that is!]

Could have been a better than average song if only they hadn't included the horns. hmmm - well I s'pose a Rhino would be a Hippo if they hadn't included the horns, too.
[not a bad song either, btw!]

Isn't it strange [but no, maybe it isn't?] that the 2 'jettisoned' FF members seem(ed) to be more in touch with what the, ahem... 'older fan' feels? I don't know JC from a hole-in-the-ground, but he seems to be a solid human being, and that's good enough for me.

So, Luke - correct me if I'm wrong here - but do you think the full video exists somewhere, in some form, but it's hog-tied by rights issues? Yes, and no to the last part. I think Trinifold hold the visual rights, as Alan G. Parker got the "OK" from them to include the footage in Hello Quo!, albeit very poor quality (Laserdisc rip - I think) Huh? So the full gig [missing tracks/bits etc] DOES exist on video? I was under the impression that the missing bits were missing [i.e. unrecoverable] I think this is good news [but I might be wrong!!]
Y'know, to be honest I'd take the audio-edited version if every song played that day was available on video. It doesn't really bother me that they polished [🙄] their performance later in the studio. We may never have had 'Unleashed in The East', 'Live & Dangerous' and probably heaps of other albums, if 'glitches and all' was was a criteria for Live albums. Jus' sayin'.
