I'm still waiting for the official release of the Hammersmith 79 gig that was apparently professionally recorded. Does anyone know if it still exists or am I waiting in vain for the 'lovingly curated from the vaults' edition? cheers

I understand that at the time in their pomp they may have thought it was sub par or too soon after the Apollo live album, but based on what we've been fed recently I'm sure it would be the mutts nuts. Bootlegs from the period prove the band were still an excellent live proposition so unless the recording was technically flawed or lost I can't understand why they're holding it back. Surely Porter would put it out if he thought there was a quid in it for him? especially considering some of the bootleg quality pap we've had on the deluxe reissues etc

I asked John Eden about this, if he knew what happened to the tapes, if there ever was a proper mix and why it never was released, but he said that he only had vague memories of sitting in the recording bus outside Hammy, he didnt have a clue what happened after that. Maybe Bob Young or Colin Johnson knows? I had an audience recorded cassette tape from this gig (long gone now, sadly), and as far as I remember it was a very good gig, so I cant understand why it hasnt been released yet. Quite many changes in the setlist compared to Glasgow -76, so it wouldnt have been too similar with that one either...

I think Quo forgot about the recording of the gig at the time themselves anyway, cause there was an interview with Rick around 80/81 were he mentioned that they had something planned for another live album but they weren't quite sure what it was going to be yet... then Live At The N.E.C was released

If so, maybe that was the one Rick was talking about?

And there's the Amsterdam '79 footage and Bingley Hall gig if the tapes of both gigs are around

Quo do actually have the sound desk tapes from Sydney in 1974 as Bob Young mentioned it years back on his website... but they used a bootleg version on the boxset release... no way was that from the sound desk. I wonder how many other recordings there are from the 70's. Is there anything else from Wembley '74? I remember on Rickys board there was one of the camera men from the gig saying it was sort of last minute and a few had issues with cameras getting jammed that night

I'm still convinced the full Southend concert from 1975, is either with Bob Young or Colin Johnson. Why would they record the first song they performed, Juniors Wailing, Roll Over Lay Down, the 6th on the set list and the last number in the set, Roadhouse Blues, without recording anything else.

They also have the other 2 nights from 'Glasgow Apollo + Live' don't they... I remember there was something mentioned about them on Rickys board. I think the only time we'll see these is when Quo have actually stopped being a live band... And maybe we won't get half arsed releases/bootleg audio that's been cleaned up anymore

I suspect there is all sorts tucked away in the 'vaults' for a rainy day. be nice if live stuff saw releases sooner rather than later though.

I'm sure Francis says they sat down to compile the album from the 3 nights of tapes only to find the 2nd and 3rd nights had a technical fault on them or something which meant only the first night could be used. If I remember it rightly he said the other two nights were 'better' perfromances but the first night had a better raw, warts and all energy to it. That could all be b0ll0x though... didn't something similar happen with the Who's Live at Leeds? they also recorded a Hull gig which couldn't be used due to interference and the bass dropping out or something. That was everntually cleaned up/overdubbed and released though about 10-15 yrs ago so maybe there's hope?

Someone within the management also mentioned in that thread that they planned on using an intro from a different night for the reunion tours instead of the one they ended up using. Could be mistaken
