Hi all
First post my me, and I wanted to share my thoughts on Monday nights show...
I was at the Manchester gig, and must say I would estimate far less than the quoted 9-10000 in attendance. This may have contributed to the atmosphere which I would describe as muted. The room was far too big for Quo as they stand today. I had only seen them once before, at the Liverpool Philharmonic in 2005. At that show I had been really impressed, that was a powerful, and loud band! I hadn't been much of a fan up to that point, but was really impressed.
This year they really lacked power, Francis remains an excellent frontman, but the rest of the band seem merely pedestrian. Andy's keyboards seemed rather low in the mix throughout, which surprised me. From the get go there was something missing.. I don't think this is just down to Ricks absence, Leon may be a fine drummer, but he really does not fit with Quo music at all. He keeps time, but lacks power, Ritchie is also low in the mix for the most part. With the lack of power in the drums and rhythm guitar, maybe Rhino should step up a notch, being as high as he was in the mix showed up that he does not contribute to the drive in the music, maybe it's time to get a plectrum!
I did enjoy the gig, but then I love the music I was hearing. But I have to ask why does Francis persist with this line up, does he lack the confidence to go out and play with musicians of his own standard?
Cheers
Gray
