Alan refused to play the bass notes, the root and the fifth together, because he didn't think it was manly enough. Apparently, according to Francis recently, when talking about trying to get Quo to play and write songs like The Eagles
Living on an island, Rock n Roll, Unspoken Words, All The Reasons, Claudie and Margarita Time, to name a few, prove that theory wrong...
Quite a snide remark considering how wrong he is

He plays bass perfectly on the above songs that you named and the bass lines suit those tracks. Don't see it a snide remark...

It would be awful. More to the point, why the hell was he trying to turn them into The Eagles? That's just bizarre

What ya mean aren't played like that? You just said he meant the rockier type song and I gave you two of them and said how terrible it would have been. Which means Alan was right to play them that way, Francis was wrong to even suggest this and totally snide to say Alan tried to be "manly" with his bass lines, even though I've given a list of songs that show Alan's talent, creativeness and soul

I mean that they aren't played root and fifth style... Yes, I know that. And, as I stated, aren't they much better without a root and fifth pattern?

The Eagles? Dear God, no... Yes, fans from 70s/80s Quo days will know that Francis always referred to the Eagles when interviewed about other music he liked. To paraphrase him, "he was mad for them."

Hi All, There's nothing wrong with the Eagles but they where not the same type of Rock musicians as Quo, where having them influence the writing I would have said was a good tactic but musically I can understand why Nuff said NAAGH!....
